An old recommended mixture that I use to oil shells is 1part lighter fluid and 2 parts mineral or baby oil. The lighter fluid helps to cut the greasy feeling of the oil. It's an odd mixture but it really works well and I've been using it for years 😁

Hi Jono, I was at your favourite beach on Sunday and found ANOTHER LIVE textile cone. It was half buried under sand and when I moved it with a stick I realised it was alive! I have compared the pattern on the one you found, and my photos, and they are definitely NOT the same. Maybe the council should put up a sign warning people that these deadly cones can be found in this area. There were lots of people on the beach and rocks at the time. Also my 3 year old granddaughter asked why you said a shell you found was "sick". She wanted to know what was wrong with it :-D Thank you for your wonderful videos.

I use mineral oil as well and it makes the shells come alive with color and brightness!! I need to use my dremel now!!!

Thanks for the video! Can bleach ruin colors or not?
@drdrew310 ай бұрын
After six hours of so the bleach has done all it can on the stains. Longer than that it will slowly start to permanently fade the colors

I coat my shells with a mixture of beeswax and baby oil. The shine lasts longer.

Yeah I was wondering about the staying power. I've used mineral oil on my rocks but it doesn't last long. He said 1 month in the video which Is about how long it lasts on rocks. Interesting

Cool! I just got a knobby whelk from SC. Salty Reflections, and she keeps them and sells them in their natural condition as she finds them which I love too but I think I'm going to do what you did to yours to mine. the transformation was just really nice. Thank you 🐌🐚🐢💜

I found two shells ,both have dust and mud and who knows what stuck on them. I tried brushing it off, even used steel wool but the substance won't budge. Any advice? I did soak them overnight in mild soap but 😢

Thank you for doing this. Would you also use the dremel tool to grind out Little Rocks stuck in smaller shell like Cowrey?

Gloves & a mask? Are you handling plutonium or something. ❄️❄️
@drdrew310 ай бұрын
Household bleach is 94% water and only 6% bleach. It’s already VERY dilute and then he adds it to several gallons of water. As long as you stay upwind from the source you are fine. The kinds of mask he’s using is worthless against fumes anyway

looks great after the mineral oil ... but ... feels greasy ...
@carolwise547 Жыл бұрын
@@charleskraus4453 that is true. I let them sit overnight and then buff them with a Kleenex or paper towel and they are then shinny but not sticky. Definitely go a little overboard with my seashells , lol
