In this video, Jorge shows users how to clear a tamper on a security system. A tamper means that someone has attempted to open up or disable a programmed sensor. This will cause a trouble condition on the system. If this event takes place while the system is armed, it will immediately go into alarm.
A tamper should not be confused with a fault. A fault simply means that the sensor programmed with a zone has been activated. For example, if it is a door and window contact, a fault means that the door or window has been opened. Or if it is a motion detector, a fault means that the sensor has detected motion.
Depending on the Response Type for the zone, a fault may or may not cause an alarm on the system. If a fault occurs while the system is disarmed, a user will need to clear the fault before the system can be armed. However, the security system can still be armed if all of its faulted zones are bypassed first.
On the other hand, a tamper means that the sensor has had its cover removed and the sensor is currently opened up. This will cause a trouble condition on the system. If the system is disarmed, it will be unable to be armed until the trouble is cleared. If the system is armed when a tamper takes place, an immediate alarm will occur.
To clear the tamper, the sensor must have its cover properly re-secured. On a hardwired VISTA System, a user will need to disarm their system twice using a valid user code to clear the trouble. On a wireless system, there is often a button for clearing the trouble. The user must provide a valid user code twice to clear the tamper condition.

What do we do, if the tamper or faulted messages don't go away post checking if the the sensor cover is in place and the door is closed correctly?

This meant (for my ancient 2001 era system) that the sensor had gone bad. Had to replace them as this happened, I threatened to leave ADT unless they replaced as many of my sensors as they were willing to, which was 20 in my case. I still have some of the remaining window sensors going bad here and there. You can keep the panel from beeping at random times by specifically bypassing the zone for the sensor that is generating the false tamper.

@@christopherjbutler I thought I had a bad sensor till I remembered to press DOWN on the top of the cover after you replace it. You'll hear a small "click:. Maybe 1/32" but its enough to mess things up. And by "Down" I mean towards the floor, not "in" towards the door.

Good advice, BUT if you have a Slomin system, with that thin "mini"sensor, some of them don't have any slot to get a screwdriver into. Gently pry the cover off, from the bottom. After you replace the battery ( a 2032, + side out) replace the cover . IMPORTANT ! After you snap the cover back on, you have to press DOWN on the top of the cover and it will go down maybe 1/32". If you don't do this you will never get rid of tamper. By "down" I mean towards the floor. Then you have to cycle through "arm/disarm twice. I fooled around with it for an hour, then for some reason I pressed down on the top of the cover and heard a small snap. Then I cancelled the service call. Oh, PS, make sure your extended service plan is up to date.

@scola1951, Correct, most mini contacts need to be snapped and/or locked back in place depending on the manufacturer. Some slide to unlock and lock the top cover, some have tabs to use a flat head screwdriver to lift a corner or side, then be snapped back into place. B aware of which type of sensor you have when attempting to open to replace the battery, as improperly opening the top cover can damage the cover or tamper on the sensor causing the tamper to stay indefinitely open.

Any idea why a hardwire would show tamper? Bad contact? Thank you in advance!
@dylanalarm_grid1038
@dylanalarm_grid1038 4 жыл бұрын
If this is for a hardwired system, the device itself may have some type of tamper switch built in or the wires at the panel terminals may be loose. If this is for a wireless system and your wired devices are connected to some sort of converter unit, such as the 5800C2W, then the converter unit itself is experiencing the tamper. Meaning the cover on it is being seen as open.

Thanks I have my system but vista 48 and for no reason pop up the tamper
@AlarmGrid
@AlarmGrid 4 жыл бұрын
You don't get tamper for no reason. Either a device's cover isn't properly seated, or it could be that the tamper switch itself is defective, but there is a reason it's popping up. To check for a bad tamper switch, try either manually holding down the tamper with your finger, then disarming at the panel. If the tamper won't clear when you know for a fact it's being depressed, then that's a bad tamper switch. If the tamper trouble is more intermittent, you could try maybe taping it down, then seeing if the problem returns.

If you can't get it pop up the clear troubles within zones, I would try hitting the home button twice on the lyric and see if it prompts you to enter your code, as long as your devices cover is closed and the tamper is not damaged on the device it should clear after repeating this process a second time.

@@nathangalarmgrid5205 thanks for the advice but nothing changed. Hitting it twice brings me back to the main menu. Hitting it once brings me to the Not Ready To Arm error due to the tamper error. Still have to bypass that door sensor to Arm the system. Not a fan of Honeywell- how does a door sensor start showing a tamper error a few months after install when it still hanging in the same as iy was at install.

Sorry to hear. If the tamper issue continues after the steps in this video were followed, the sensor itself may be having an issue with its tamper switch. If that is the case the sensor would need to be replaced.
