I was raised in the evangelical baptist church and over the years have deconstructed and disengaged from faith altogether. I enjoy religious studies for sociological and anthropological reasons but I also enjoy it for the myriad ways that humans have tried to make sense of the visible and invisible universe and the unexplainable. We’re creative creatures. I find that there is truth to be found in so many faith paths, and you’re one of those sources for me Rabbi Jacobson. I appreciate you and your work on this platform immensely. Thank you for your ministry.

I'm retired and have lots of time on my hands. Sometimes when I'm sitting around and maybe watching a video like yours on KZbin, something I've done in the past that never bothered me before comes to mind. If it's something I wouldn't be proud of, I asked Father God to forgive me. Then I sit quietly and let go. As I let go, I may say to myself that must have caused others pain when they noticed something missing or destroyed and not knowing how or who did it. These memories were of things that happened in my life many years ago and I realized I can't go back to make it right for the ones I hurt. But I must accept God's forgiveness and thank him for helping me to become a better person, like the man I am today.

Thank you Rabbi Jacobson. And in addition to the appreciated counsel on decluttering and defining our personal mission and priorities. The one piece of advice that was most impactful was said at 56:03, "...try to be objective and not prejudiced by your previous choices!" ...as this one statement seemingly wiped a 17 year mindset of fearing life for being overwhelmed by past choices! So thank you very much for this overall perspective! Strength to you, and all the best.

Can you expand on the part about focusing on a relationship with building a career please? The bit at the end..how would one know how to identify the right person if they don't have their 'ducks in order'? I always thought it would come after because of my own inability to trust myself enough with a choice. That as I developed with career/education..I'd somehow master that.

I loved this talk, you said all the right things and used all the right words, but one thing that gets in the way and contradicts the not relying on others being free from external factors is that relationships are a boulder, and relationships depend on external factors and on other people. Not just nurturing a relationship and the very nature of a relationship but also even just finding someone that fits to be a soulmate, is something that mostly doesnt depend on oneself, especially in a world where people prioritize the materialistic instead of truth and love.

In Maslow's hierarchy of needs, the mission or self-actualization is actually the last thing that's added on top of physical health, safety, love and belonging, and esteem. Have I been doing life all wrong? My mission right now is to get my health right.. I never really had a mission or I don't remember it from when I was a child
