I share the same sentiment. As I listened to this discussion, I couldn’t help but ponder in a sort of yearning in question of how can one find such support from others - as you stated - “in a world where everyone is the center of their own universe”? I recognize my empathy and my constant need to withdraw after openly giving, supporting and encouraging family as well as those whose paths have crossed mine. In those moments I introspect and find ways to nourish my thoughts, creativity, and soul. But when I return from such a state no one cares to share support & encouragement for my development or pursuits. I unfortunately feel they just come to offload and to receive, filling up their tanks and leaving me emptied until I am able to replenish myself once more. So my question is, if interrelations of such are necessary, in what way am able to progress both individually and collectively if there isn’t a reciprocal flow between these two fields, from persons-to-person?
@robertbeckham3091 Жыл бұрын
@@shulamitsara6391 I don’t know the answer to that question. At first I assumed that depriving those people my time and attention, would some how make them realize what they were doing. I can totally relate to this. Growing up, I was practically mute, very shy, very introverted. I hated it whenever someone said “you’re so quiet” or “what’s wrong?” But despite being an introvert that barely talked to anyone, I ended up graduating top of class in both middle school and high school. When I was in college, I struggled to accept myself and that’s when I started going downhill, doing things so against my nature. Of course I grew a lot, I don’t mind talking to people now. I spark up conversations, especially when the other person appear shy or quiet themselves. I even became a nurse because I wanted to improve my communication skills. But it drained me so much and burned me out. I left to start up a business but I started going down the wrong path again, trying to learn sales which again is going against my nature. I’m tired of focusing on my perceived “weaknesses” instead of my strengths. I’m going to start focusing on what I love and what I’m good at. I’m creative, I like making food, sharing food, and talking about life experiences and lessons. I just hope it leads me to a better financial path 😅

Before covid I was starting to finally get out more until the isolation of lockdown, in which I found that all I had done was make a persona or a mask to wear. That mask slipped and faded away, leaving me alone with all the internal conflict that a introspective person creates in their mind. The pressure from society, the way in which you are judged by people who never tried to speak with you, being left out and left alone to your own demise... I became bitter, mad at the world, mad at myself most of all. I am working on myself now, trying to heal these internal wounds inflicted by the self.

This scenario happens every times i'm at my parents house during holidays...Everyone are just talking and talking without thinking things through. When i jump into the discussions, i've already listened, thought about it, come up with a argument and always ''win'' or come out as the one who makes sense. I find that introverts tends to be more intelligent, more in tune with themselves, actually happier. I really do feel people are afraid to get to know themselves. My husband family perfect example: Everyday four five televisions on in the home, get in the car and blast music, go to stores and hear music. We are never alone with our own thoughts and our own selves to really know who and what we are. We always are bombarded with the thoughts and voices of other people in our brains. We need to get back to our true essence of being to understand what being human really is. It's all written in our hearts!

In general people love being around me because I’m respectful, resourceful, and I’ll always put them first. To me there’s more annoying than extrovert that speaks first without listening or observing. It’s like they’re speaking their thoughts as it enters their mind. I only speak my thoughts after conferring with tried-and-true doctrines because I hate falsehood and appearing foolish. I still get ahead in the workplace because i treat all my coworkers and managers well. Yes. I know people who constantly need to "feed" off of other's. They always leave you broken and desolate after they "feed".

I think of my introversion as a means by which I can offer something of deeper value and evolving understanding. Though not easily relatable to most people, but it feels well worth that unfortunate reality. This Rabbi was enjoyable to listen to, especially articulating how valuable it has always been to "know oneself."

It's so difficult trying to explain to people that I love my alone time and actually prefer it. People take it personally. People who don't understand this think there's something wrong with me and even feel sorry for me. At times, this has lead to others trying to take control over my social life and interactions.

The reason for being an introvert is more important then people think. It is not just being a born as one, usually there are some problems, fears or subconcious blockades that makes you introverted. It is way of escapism, safe mode i should say for someone to go through this troublesome life ...
@rg5312 Жыл бұрын
Like he explained the same goes for extroverts. Its a defense mechanism for fearing who you really are. Not wanting to be alone with yourself or your significant other because you are worried they/you won't like what you find.

It is a coping mechanism for me. Since I was a kid I was scared and shy as hell. Was bullied a lot cuz I was the light skin with no hair (parents didn’t feel like taking care of it so just kept cutting it), mole on the side of my face, Puerto Rican but don’t know Spanish. Smh list goes on. From my personal experience it was feeling like I was worth nothing so I didn’t think I had the right to be heard or some shit. Feel like I’m venting so yeah 😂

I’m an introverted social media personality. I have a strong and distinct voice when I speak but I don’t have actively network in public settings. I don’t have a problem socializing but I search out conversation on rare occasions. Silence can be powerful.

When I was in college one of my teachers after marking the papers the confessed that she marked mine last because she thinks the others would have done better, because i was not the one who speak up a lot in class, but after she marked he papers I got the highest grade. She confessed she was wrong after a while she stated referring students to me for help .. just saying that sometimes they don’t understand u, someone you overlook may just be a genius or a life saver

Hi Antonette, when I was in college, our teacher gave us an extra task as kind of punishment as we had been too loud during the lesson. We should write a german text of 2 pages, whatever we imagined we could write, even by copying any text. German was my weakest course at school. Well, I wrote a an ironic text about a lonely weather frog in a jar. 2 days later our teacher came into our class and said: Well, gentlemen, I have really read your writings. One of you has absolutely surprised me. It is the best text I have ever read during my life as a college teacher.. my next teacher in german told me 29 years later, that He had had the impression that school routine had prevented me from showing my full potential. It was in recent November that I learnt that I am an introvert according to MBTI .. 5 years ago a friend of mine ( psychological specialist) had told me I was highly intelligent without referring to a grade. When I learnt about my being an introvert.. I urged a complete test.. and was struck by the fact that I am excellent in 8 of 9 different types of intelligence. How shall I tell this to my family? My friends and former colleagues are not surprised .. but my family will be.. they (MDs like me) partly thought that I was not normal in my head.. . I am aged 77 now, had a fascinating life.. I was lucky because of my parents.. my first teacher in primary school told my mother that I was like this and my parents obeyed to her recommendations in full awareness of their task.. my mother told me about this only once several days before her death at the age of 84.. God bless you, dear sister Antonette, and ALL Our brothers and sisters. Albrecht from Germany..

Um I see this a lot but if the extrovert is loud, socializing, mingling it’s sooo obvious the quiet ones would have gotten more work done. So having higher scores is not that genius or life saving.

Really good video, glad I stumbled upon this one. I was an extrovert since I was a kid but after encountering so many nasty and down right mean people, I started to not really care anymore. Then covid hit.... Now, I am a full introverted social butterfly. I rather spend my time alone now rather than spending time with others. I find focusing on improving ones skills equally satisfying.

Great insights Rabbi. As primarily an introvert I was steered in this direction. "Blind Spot's" are exactly what you say, "hidden from our sight." We need outside perspectives to see our "Blind Spots." 🙏
