I'll be honest... I just recently bought your Intro to Davinci Resolve program because I'm new to videography and editing. How does anyone who's serious even get to that point? You film something. You decide to edit it. So you download a software like Davinci Resolve and play with it for a day or two. Then you decide you need help! I bought the program and honestly felt bad about it based on the "Barney" level instruction... but wait... that was until I got to the fusion and color grading portion. Then I couldn't be thankful enough for the "barney" style approach. That being said, the more and more I watch your content. The more examples I see in your instruction style. The more I realize I will be a Davinci stylist for the foreseeable future and will build the foundations of what will be my business off of the things I learn from you. Thank you, Casey for taking the time, energy and effort to make content that makes ANYONE feel like they can turn a hobby into a 6-7 figure business. Much respect!

An alternative to this is to use the steady mode in the tracker, then paint / clone stamp your footage. Next copy the tracker and run the paint node output into it, now use the nu-steady footage check box to invert the tracking data. This will clone stamp every frame so you keep texture, grains, and any lighting changes. In this set up its important to track and steady the object you want to paint, you want it to look so steady when played that it looks like a freeze frame.

Hi there, first I wanna say thank you, for all your really great tutorials. They actually help! Second I hope you excuse my "not so good" English. I'm using DaVinci free, for about three weeks now, cutting a short movie. Here is my problem: We have a pretty long shot, with two people, walking into the sunset. Yeah, I know, it's a clichee and it is ment to be one... ;) Filming into the sun, means lens flares. Most of them are ok, but there is one green, looking more like a sphere, wich is also "pulsing" two times in the whole shot. The camera is standing on a tripod, so I startet to "clone" it away. It worked. NOW to the real problem: At the end of the shot, two actors are walking through my correction, making DaVinci to "clone them into" my correction. So there are parts of their clothes "flashing" up in the background. I can't explain it better, sorry. My Idea would be, to keyframe from now on and correct any frame. Like pasting the people over the flare. Is there a better/easyer way? Greeting, V.

The good part was the painting job, for the 'rough it in' approach, it went shockingly well. Good job there. Question: When you say "get rid of the mask" (eclipsed area) are you deleting that node? I got the clone to work in one clip of my working video [didn't apply to entire clip (got tired of waiting because I didn't know how long to wait and didn't go all the way to the beginning either, nor did I get as far as create planar transform] but it worked. My unwanted object is 'covered' and the rest of the footage shows/moves. I thought wow that was easy but I've tried three times now to do the same thing to another clip and each time I end up with a freeze frame through the entire clip. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong and I've followed the steps with you each time. I have never used photoshop or any photo editing software. BTW, my camera is stationary, if that makes any difference. EDIT: I got it figured out. Since my camera was stationary all I needed to do was paint out/clone over the undesirable culprit I allowed into my video. Took me two days, but yeah. . .pretty proud of myself actually.

I just this going step by step with my own attempt to clone out a twig with the bark behind it. I go to the step of the planar tracker and couldn't outline the object because the previous steps cloned it out. In the video it is visible again. I came to see if there were any questions regarding a missing step and I see my own unanswered post as I tried this a year ago with the same problem. So again I ccan't proceed to outline the subject because it's masked and playing on the still.

Is there a way to do this with Tracker instead of Planar Tracker? Planar Tracker will only track 1 frame ahead for me, but Tracker works.
@theearlybirder-videos Жыл бұрын
I had to give up. I got to the point of the planar tracker, but while his video still shows the object to be removed, mine is still hidden as the still remains. I backed up multiple times to see if I missed something and I still don't see the object to be blocked. I started all over to see if I made a mistake and come to the same point and I know longer see the hidden object, as the still is there to the end. More than an hour, maybe 2 and don't see maybe a step missing.

I spent nearly 15 years with Softimage/Avid DS as my compositing software, and a task like this would have been a breeze...obviously that was quite a while back! Just getting started with DaVinci, and the paint node is kicking my butt. So, I gotta ask, why can't you clone from moving video, and track that? It seems like cloning a still over moving video, even with tracking, leads to a whole different set of problems. What happens when the light changes rapidly, which can happen even in a short shot, for example. Does DaVinci even have the capability to clone from moving video, or must it always be a still?

Hey Cassie, thanks again for a great (easy to follow) tutorial. I do have a mystery that perhaps others might be experiencing. This technique works flawlessly on most all of my footage, but I have found that this technique seems to fail on virtually every shot of a commercial that I just shot. What all of these shots have in common are that they are all dolly shots. What I was wonder is if you or anyone else might be able to weigh in on is, do you think that it has something to do with the fact that unlike shaky handheld or slow panning shots that the dolly is introducing too much perspective change? Just to illustrate my point in more detail, an example of one of the shots that I can’t seem to use this technique on is a shot of a person sitting at a desk with a laptop. The camera is staying on her while on dolly moving from left to right and all I was trying to do was retouch out the power cable running over the desk and the patch just won’t track well and/or hold perspective. Anyway that’s what I am seeing and I would love to hear your thoughts. Again thanks a million for your fantastic content. I am truly a better production professional because of your perennial content!
@eminencegrise37872 жыл бұрын
A dolly shot has perspective change, while the planar tracker is focussed on 2D location and rotation tracking. For the dolly shot to work, you'd have to do a camera track. 3 months late but hope it helps!

help me Casey Faris, you're my only hope! I have this footage of a string puppet and I need to remove the strings in DaVinci (I have the studio version). I've tried so many things but I always end up failing. the problem is, the strings run across the puppet's face (so not the background, I already removed those). Plus, both the puppet and the strings move around, so those string don't always cover the same part of the puppet's face. on any still frame, I manage to remove the strings, no problem. But even if I do that frame by frame, when you play the whole clip, you can totally see the irregularities in the image, because the "paint job" moves around the frame, where the strings used to be. Any ideas???
