Charles Malki, Biologist & Plant Expert for IVOrganics.com/ shares his Top Ten (10) Tips for propagating roses using the cuttings method. Alternative and somewhat more challenging methods of cloning roses are by way of (1) Air Layering, and (2) Grafting. Helpful links to lessons using all these methods of propagating plants can be found below...
The following is a summary of the topics discussed:
(1:59) Select growth between 6-12 months
(2:42) Limit length to appx 6-10”
(3:24) Prune appx ¼ inch from node
(4:05) Score the bottom of the cutting to increase absorption & increase surface area for root development
(4:23) Add rooting powder, cinnamon or honey
(5:30) Plant 1+ nodes into soil medium: 50/50 perlite + vermiculite
(6:48) Water from the bottom-only, to encourage roots to come down for a drink
(8:21) WhiteWash with IV Organic® Ready-To-Use Spray: AntiTranspirant & Reduce Shock = higher rooting success!
(8:52) 6-8 weeks later…. ROOTS! 😊
(9:02) Year 1: Remove buds & flowers to encourage more growth & root development
(9:37) Fertilize with IV Organic® ALL PURPOSE every 3 months during the growing seasons: Spring, Summer & Fall for maximum blooms & plant health.

Perlite, vermiculite, sand all are clean without the mold of mulch, but also lack nutrients. So they root but remain weak, and the plants die, just slower. Also, when he tore off the leaf nodes, that introduced scare points to infect the plant with mold, which he did not cover in root hormone.

Never successfully rooted a rose yet, 3 years and trying. Friend took some of my rose cuttings, claimed one rooted but blamed planting it in the yard killed it. I said growing it in perlite made it weak and so it just took longer to die, but did make some roots that were not related to plant survivability. She took more cuttings today to try again, and since I now have perlite, I have potted cuttings to try also, but with a couple variations.

@stephaniebach__12-24
@stephaniebach__12-24 2 ай бұрын
I think he put the second cup on there because it helps water the cutting from the bottom up rather than from watering it from the top... Because it causes the roots to want to go downwards more searching for water)

Curious if plants treated with mono-silicic acid would provide even better cuttings. I've heard it provides better cut roses in regards to their longevity. Would love to see studies on this.
