Good morning Rich and Holly! I love that you collect the wildflower seed. I have been doing it for several years and I had a friend come over to help me collect seeds from the wildflowers and some herbs on the wildflowers and herbs. She was excited. What is cool is I have seeds from plants for many years. So I believe last night was possibly our first frost here in Guthrie, Oklahoma so yesterday ai still have wildflowers all over the farm. I was able to collect tropical milkweed seeds from the plants I overwinter in the geothermal greenhouse. And some native milkweed seeds from the farm. So I will be collecting this week. I hope you have a very blessed day! Wendy🇺🇸🙏🏻🌎

That is awesome! I wonder if the tropical milkweed need certain conditions to insure they germinate. Have you tried freezing some (and not freezing others) and seeing which seeds germinate better? Hope you're doing well Wendy! Cheers!

I really enjoy the wildflowers. Never harvested them. On the farm whatever the Lord planted along the border, ditch, and pasture was fine with us. Tusen Takk Rich.

I'm trying to give Mother Nature a hand in getting more to germinate. I'm trying to do my part to help the Monarch. I bet your ditch is quite well stocked. Cheers Bryce!

It's easy to forget saving. I had as well, thus the video in November! It ended up that there were plenty to save. Thanks for stopping by Lisa!

All of my garden seeds live in the freezer.

Is that just a practice you follow or is it "required" for better germination in your area?

@TheOldSwedesFarm seeds stay viable for a long long time. I've got seeds that are over 20 years old that still germinate really well. I've stored them in the freezer ever since we moved here 35 years ago. Because weavle bugs used to get into anything that wasn't in the freezer, flour, cornmeal, cake mixes, macaroni etc. So I just figured it was a good idea.

@@BroqueCowgirlHomestead That is a great idea! Most of our native seeds won't germinate unless they go through "winter" so I simulate that in the freezer! Keep them viable and away from the birds and mice! Cheers Gwen!
