Thank you for making this coloring tutorial!! I really struggle with coloring digital art. Everytime I have to do it I'm not sure where to begin or how to shade. But after coming across your channel I'm really starting to understand how the coloring process works! I love your technique and how you explain EXACTLY what you are doing. I've watched other art tutorials but it's more telling not showing how the shading is done. Without speaking you manage to explain the whole process and that's just amazing! And it's in smaller words so that a viewer can understand. Some of my favorite technique you did in this video is using a overlay layer to add in the orange on the edges of the shadows (I have always wondered how to do it). And using the lasso tool to add in hard shadows. Again thank you so much for making this tutorial. When I color I feel like I understand it more because of your help!

Thank you so much for this in-depth feedback comment, this really means a lot to me. I am glad it was helpful in such a way. I love seeing peoples process, especially when they show some of the 'behind the scene' things like layers and ways to work more efficiently and faster :) the orange edges are a real game changer, they add so much more interest to a shading, it's insane. Again, thanks for your sweet comment, I am so glad it helped :)

I always loved the way you render, I want my art to look as good as yours too! this is really helpful tysm :D Also in regards to questions, (may be completely unrelated), how long does it normally take you to finish a piece?
@kurohshiro Жыл бұрын
Oh wow, thank you! It's actually a very simple way of rendering and not that clean and polished from a closer look but it works from a distance and thats good :) Some painting are very quick, like this one (20h?) and some take me ages, 100h+ And thats not because of the rendering, its mostly a proportion issue in the face which i notice way too late and then i have to redo parts so many times. So a good sketch means a quickly finished piece haha
@WhiteFox508 Жыл бұрын
@@kurohshiro 20 hours is actually similar to myself surprisingly (I thought great artists would take shorter like 30 minutes, eg. samdoesarts) I was going to ask if you make mistakes post-lineart but you answered that already… So the actual painting process may take 20-100 hours, but on a day-week-month scale how long does it take? Including breaks and procrastination (if it happens). I’m also curious as to how much art experience you have, as in for how long since you started drawing? Do you work on multiple illustrations at a time or you only start a new one when you finish the previous? I’ve also noticed you used a limited amount of layers (base color layer, render layer, special effects/other layer only), has it happened to you to make a mistake and unable to rub it out as it rubs out the entire render? This one is just pure curiosity, as it has happened to me several times (why I end up using 700+ layers) Sorry for bombarding you with questions ಥ_ಥ you’re a huge inspiration to me, I love how you can draw so many poses and so many head angles while it still looks good, it’s so cool how you can make desaturated colors stand out so much…

@@WhiteFox508 trying to compare anyone to sam’s speed is asking for trouble tbh. Sam has a style of minimalism that has been fully optimized for max output at a very high speed. People like us on the other hand are still figuring out our art and as such we take time. Sometimes we don’t like the color, sometimes we forget how we did it in our previous piece. Even someone like Kuroshiro, as he mentioned above, has minor problems here and there. If you want to get super high speeds, then I suggest ironing out your workflow. Then try drawing a complete piece in 2hours. Your brain will have to work even harder to figure out how to get good results in such a short amount of time. Don’t run away, just run to your goal.

The idea of making a messy color in for shadows, then make new separate layers, then duplicate and clip the messy color to those cleaner outlines is a very clever idea. I've done messy coloring for a practice shadow but would then make silhouettes of stuff for each layer and couldn't recreate that nice look I like in the other one. That's very clever.
