Another amazing video! I love watching your process. The rough color on a single layer is always so intimidating to me because it already looks finished 😆Before I had difficulty understanding the method of separating layers and clipping them to the rough color layer, but I think it was presented really clear here! Thank you for showing us your process again!
@kurohshiro
@kurohshiro Жыл бұрын
Aw but that's the point! I am more intimidated by the idea of having multiple unfinished layers I have to go through individually and render all of it on it's own. That way I am close to call it done when the rough colour layer is finished^^ So the satisfaction is higher since I can render whatever I want without switching and it feels more naturally to me^^ I am glad it was more clear here. I forgot to record this step so I was worried it might be confusing. Thanks a lot for your comment :3

I want to cry, thank you so much for uploading your entire process. As an artist I find it so inspiring and motivating when people share how they do their artwork. I always feel like using references makes me 'unskilled' and that no one else needs them like I do. This really puts things into perspective and lessens my worries. Thank you again, I think this is actually helping my artblock.

That's amazing to hear! I am so glad you keep on drawing. Honestly there's nothing like the fear of missing out or growing out of a style in my opinion, since whatever you like is the best style, So maybe Anime style is scarry, it ranges from semi realism to absolute cartoonish simplifications. I am actually trying to apply painting techniques to my stylized anime character drawings :) Anyways, I am wishing you the best for your art journey, having a community to share things to and get engaged helps to get back to it, get motivated and excited to be back in the art sphere ^^

Seeing you used 5 or more references on single illustration gives me a new perspective! Now i only use 1 or 2 references. I think i need to search more references from now on. Your method on the single layer rough color and have it clipped on individual base color layer is really amazing. Ohh I use a ton of reference. When I know I want to draw a gemstone, i look for 2 or 3 references just for this single object. It's so helpful :) For me the single layer thing is less scary because theres nothing to ruin since I make a copy of it before I refine it. Sometimes the rougher initial shapes are the best looking ones and I won't overrender stuff like this^^ Thank you!

Line variation is so hard (hence why I don’t draw lineart) but you do it so flawlessly o(^▽^)o the rough colouring tip has motivated me so much to continue some abandoned art, it’s really helpful. Copy pasting it also keeps the original progress so that’s a good tip. Also about the lasso tool, everytime I use it it makes these really pixelated edges that as a perfectionist I hate, is it just ibisPaint orrr… and how do you pick colors, my color choices are often really saturated and well, unrealistic. Maybe it’s different stylistic ideals, but I like how you art has a softer look to it.
@kurohshiro
@kurohshiro Жыл бұрын
Thats amazing to hear! This method makes my workflow so much less intimidating and stressful. I feel more productive this way^^ Ah okay..I don't know how it works for Ibis Paint since in CSP its working fine. Maybe its a matter of Anti-Aliasing or the dpi of your overall file? For colours, I plan on making a separate video for it. But basically I try to have muted based colours and add really strong saturated hues when I colour (for shadows especially and the edges of shadows)

Honestly, I don't move on to lineart when I am not happy with the sketch since that's basically my foundation. This might be different for others, who can make all the important decisions when they ink but for me it has to be clear right from the beginning where the illustration is heading to. That's why I make so many different versions for arms, poses, heads etc^^ Thank you for your comment and lovely wishes, wishing you the best!

As always you give us amazing content and help us see how digestible the process is, so it feels less intimidating. There's one thing I'm curious about... In regards to your overall progress throughout the years, when it comes to practice (although artwork and fun drawings are also another way of practice) what would you say you have done the most? artworks, wips and fun drawings or practice and studies?
@kurohshiro
@kurohshiro Жыл бұрын
Actually you already mentioned it. I never practiced, I always kept on drawing one finished illustration after another. Rarely studies. That's not the best way but when I wasn't sure how things worked, I looked for references, many, and tried to implemented what i saw into my art. That way I built a visual library of how things have to look (roughly) and when there is a special, unknown thing like the paw of a tiger, I have to look up refs again. The more you draw a certain thing, the more you will remember it without references :) I hope this answer helps you ^^

Hype!! I’m here early. I’m a huge fan of your work. It’s always hard for me to find references on pinterest. Do you have any boards you’d recommend by any chance?

I collected my stuff over the span of years, so I fed my Pinterest algorithm to give me good inspo. I hope to make a video about finding good references and inspiration without spending too much time or getting frustrated. Maybe I can make a public board for clothes, poses etc. :)

Thank you so much for this video! I do have two questions: how long did it take you to finish this piece and what is the size of your canvas?
@kurohshiro

It was a rather fast drawing, I think total working time 40h. My size is 3300 x 3700px with 300 dpi :)

hi, does anyone know the brushes for coloring shading (like the pen, marker, watercolour, blendf) kuroshiro uses?

Gorgeous work! Can I please ask this What software did you used to record the timelapse? I've been looking for timelapse screen recorder that take very few frames per sec (like 1-2frame/sec) to reduce disk ram. But most sofeware I downloaded took at least 15frames /secs 😿

Thank you! I am using OBS Studio :) I don't know the frames per second, the files are massive but I always try to delete it afterwards to have free storage.

I want to really get in there with detail and have a big image if I want to print it someday. But I'm still struggling with line width and I'm only using the g-pen. @_@ I don't want to have really thick lines but then I don't get the taper I want..

Ahh I actually don't. People told me on Instagram, it's just unfortunate because the one hidden finger has this black glove with the ring. So yeah, at the first glance it might look like that TvT

I just wanna ask something.. Do you separate the layers when you color? Or do you color in one layer

is there a reason why you don't merge the clipped copies of the rough color layer to the layers themselves and use alpha lock?
@kurohshiro
@kurohshiro Жыл бұрын
Yes, I want to work without the colouring layer being alpha locked. I want to have a clean base I can modify without interfering with the colours on top (like when there's a gap in the base layer, I can easily fix it without painting directly on the colours) Hope this makes sense.
