How to connect digital piano to PC with USB MIDI cable - Cubase and Kawai KDP-110 - setup tutorial

Hello this is the second part of my project with USB Midi and PC recording using the Cubase LE 10.5 LE software. In this video I will show you how to connect piano to your computer.

@@victorfit828 a grand piano is a classic piano which is not powered by electricity. It uses strings that are stricken by a “hammer” when a key is pressed down. A digital piano is run by electricity and has its notes pre built in, along with other sounds. Hope this helps

Hi, thanks for this great tutorial! Can I use this to play sounds that are not in my digital piano? Like in my PC I have a trumpet sound that I really love... Can I play the keys on the DP and get the trumpet sound out of the DP instead of the default DP sound?

You can not use DP speakers because Kawai doesn't have the AUX in or other digital input - it only has MIDI input which constraints you to build-in voices. But if you like playing on DP (you like key, feeling etc) you can use it as MIDI keyboard and play it thru PC speakers or connect PC / loop station to external speakers. This was great, thanks, I been tryin to find out about "how do i open the keyboard in garageband?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Penaycer Rudimentary Preponderance - (search on google ) ? It is a great one off product for discovering how to play the piano easily without the hard work. Everything depends what kind of scenario you will use, If MIDI - you don't no need to buy Audio Interface, but if you are grabbing audio - yes it is good to have because line-in / mic ports build in PC/Laptops have poor quality. each device you use to play the audio on will have its own dac and amp. These components convert the digital data into analog audio that speakers can play, but each dac chip and amp will sound differently because of course they are all made by different manufacturers, using different electronics and dac chips. There is no way to get exactly the same sound as you hear from your piano unless you send the same midi data through a device that uses the same dac and amp (ie, whatever is used in your kawai piano, or if you connect the same piano to it), or unless you record the analog sound either through the headphone jack, line out port, or use your own external microphone. Hope that answers your question, I know its a year ago, but still wanted to answer it for anyone in the future.

Check for the input ports on the piano. If you see USB type b like mine you have 99 % chance that it will work.

What is the Midi Keyboard? Today I connected my epiano CN17/KDP to my iPad via Bluetooth. And other app that I use to learn was using the Midi Keyboard, I had the headphones on the iPad and I could listen the piano too.

Most of digital pianos, arrangers, workstations, or chepaer midi keyboards (with no extra functions) - All Of them of have midi support and they could be called midi keyboard becasue they work as midi keyboard device

Hello. In this scenario - piano works only as keyboard - all notes are sent to PC thanks to MIDI signal (commands) and you need PC all the time. First of all p125 is stage piano - you need to buy separate stand. Here (in KDP) you got the solid construction which I prefer for aesthetic reasons if is stands in daily room. The truth is that in this price range the sound quality will be very similar. I recommend to listen samples of both instruments and decide which one you like more. If you have an possibility to try them live (how key works etc) it is also a great way that can help you decide. There are no bad choices here - just follow your ear and heart :) Regards

I have tested it and this piano received only Midi signal on Channel One and There is no midi mixer . so if you want to change the sound you need to do it manually by appropirare key and sound select button on the piano before you start sending notes.

I have checked to producer website and it seems that KDP has only 5-din old MIDI Socekts. You have two options : 1. Buy MIDI DIN to USB midi converter like UX-16 - but there is no guarantee of success because you need drivers on PC side 2. @@genjinubie9311 It seems like a driver problem - Does you have connection to the Internet - Windows should automatically download drives if neccessery - it seems that I can not find it - can you see Unknown Device in Device manager ? maybe try to right-mouse-click and select download drivers
