This is USEFUL! So so so many music youtuber’s assume that people know some basic stuff... but where will they learn that? Explaining the basics like audio interface and which cables they need is gold. Really wish I had this when I started two years ago, but I’m just glad it exists for beginners! I'm a dinosaur from the early days of midi, getting back into home recording...wow, have things changed. I found this video to be amazingly helpful. My question is in regards to audio. If you have multiple audio producing devices, does your audio interface need numerous inputs? Or, should you run separate audio outs into a mixer and send the outs of the mixer to the audio interface??
@SanjayC4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nancy. You can do it both ways. Using a mixer may be more cost-effective since multiple input mixers are typically cheaper than multi-input audio interfaces. If you really want to go the audio interface route the Audiofuse 8Pre by Arturia is a good choice and isn't crazy expensive

I find that Ableton has the most settings for midi keyboards - even old ones. But I'm not 100% if they are available in the free version of Ableton. Honestly, with a little setup, you can make any midi keyboard work well with Ableton. I made a video on how to setup ANY keyboard to control lots of stuff in Ableton Live kzbin.info/www/bejne/r17OmoSDm69moKc. If you want to stick with a completely free DAW, I like Cakewalk. Hmmm...If you've already talked with UA and Arturia, I don't know if I can add much. Here's what I did. Installed Audiofuse software by USB, connected Audiofuse hardware. Then selected ADAT and 48 kHz in Audiofuse software. Connected optical cable from Audiofuse out to UA optical in 1 (don't use 2). Then in UA, selected ADAT (bottom left on UA console software) and 48 kHz. The 48kHz doesn't matter of course you can use 44.1, but just make sure both interfaces set the same. After that, it just worked. No other things to mess with. Also, I made sure I activated all the UA inputs in Ableton Audio Preferences.

Yes, you can. But think about getting a better usb hub soon.

You did this ~a year ago, and between April and September 21, I have watched it umpteenth times... I find "revelations" every single time... Could you please update this and give us a fresh one. I can assure you that there are several prehistoric men and women who would watch this and benefit.. immeasurably. Thank you!!!

HELP: I can't use my minilab 3 on Reaper. I made sure everything is enabled at the Audio/MIDI Devices preferences on the DAW. I choose the Input to be MIDI (All MIDI inputs) on the track and it shows input when I play the keys, confirmed it on the virtual instrument option. BUT, when I try to add a plug in, either if its the Arturia Analog Lab or Reapers options: ReaSynths, none does seem to work... There is input, but there is no sound coming out. What am I doing wrong? Hours trying to fix this.

Very well explained, like always, but you don't have to pay a fortune for a USB/MIDI-Converter. 10 years ago I paid around 7 Euro (8 Dollars) for a Converter to connect a 30 years old Yamaha-Keyboard and it worked perfectly.

Sir....if I connect a conventional keyboard ( Yamaha PSR i500 ) to focusrite input 1.... And a condenser microphone in input 2...for which I will be needing 48v Phantom power... But the problem is... 48 volt gets applied to both the inputs ( focusrite 2i2) .... Won't the 48 volt phantom power feedback damage my keyboard? I haven't tried it yet.. waiting for your valuable suggestions
