How to connect iPhone to a TV with Apple’s HDMI to Lightning Adapter

I use an iphone 6s currently to live stream over my iPad on a mount. I have the lightning cable going to my 14in mb pro and I use the camera app display but crop out the UI. The quality isn't great. I'm considering buying a newer iPhone as you have, to use hdmi output as it may be clearer. How does the camera look if it's mirrored to the screen via hdmi? If it looks exactly as clear as it does on the phone then I'll buy that setup for sure! If you happen to see this, and if I've made sense, let me know how it goes. Thanks!

It’s clear but only has 1080p as resolution and only 30fps. So not as good as the display on the phone

Can I manually set the display ratio of the output when using this adapter? Because my screen ratio is 4:3, and I want to make the picture fill the whole screen instead of black bars when watching 4:3 ratio movies（such as Zack Snyder’s Justice League). Thanks.

You can’t but when watching movies it automatically fits the image after the format of the movie. So it should work with movies like 4:3 justice league

Of course it doesn't work with a laptop display. A laptop only has HDMI out and not in. You need a tv or a monitor

Not really. Works for me. What do you listen to? Built in speakers in TV? Sounds like a sound format that is not supported by your hardware.

Stefan Svartling not really because it works perfectly with other apps such as KZbin.. and the weird thing is that some titles work just fine! But most of titles are not, it sounds like the problem is with Netflix itself ig .. but thank you so much for responding sir❤️

Then you see the phone call on the tv but you have to talk in your phone so that will not be practical. So then it’s better to not answer and call back later

Exactly the same way you choose all other audio sources. Control center and the airplay symbol in the top right corner. A simple iOS feature that all user should know of already.

Yes it mirrors the display without any glitches and no buffering. I don’t know what DAZN is but I’m sure it will work because it just mirrors everything it sees on the phone to the tv or monitor

Perhaps a bug in 12.4, or maybe 12.4 turns off HDMI default “on” somewhere in Settings, and I have to re-enable (somewhere in Settings).

So my tv is a 2023 smart tv and my phone is an iPhone 12 Pro Max and when I try to connect my adapter,hdmi and phone to the tv instead of mirroring the screen it shows a blue screen with a code to scan ?? now it in theory should connect just like in the video but it doesn’t … so am I doing something wrong or what do I do ( also gatta say iPhones are so difficult to screen mirror than androids my 1200 dollar phone struggles to connect to tv but a cheap 40 dollar android can blew my mind so if anyone knows what I’m doing wrong please lmk )

It can’t be easier with an iPhone as I show in the video. I just plug the cable in and have the right hdmi channel selected on the tv. Nothing else. It is exactly as easy as with my android phones. It’s your tv that has a useless GUI. Don’t blame apple.

No definitely not. Just find the settings for your specific tv to switch between different hdmi ports and find the one for the connected phone. Or if the TV have some kind of built in feature to add external peripherals

After plugging the HDMI cable and the lightning adaptor, I get a scan code on the TV. I open the VIP Access app on my I phone and scan it. The screen on my Iphone immediately goes back to the home screen and the code stays on the TV screen. When I unplug the cable off my Iphone, the code on the screen goes away. The funny thing is that the home screen appears even though I scanned only a small part of the code. It is as if my Iphone was scared of the code...

Strange. I don’t get any codes to scan. It’s just plug and play. You must be sure to have a real original apple hdmi to lightning adapter and no copy

@@gretchenbayliss5292 It must be a problem in your end. It is as easy as just plug the cable in and have the right HDMI channel on the TV. There is no other magic to it. Works for me at home on three TV's and at work on two monitors for me without problems.
