As a person who has only recently conquered the extreme bee phobia (im talking about never leaving my house in warm weather extreme), i understand why that's the stand out statement from the video to you. It was for me too even just a few months ago but really... after watching these videos, going to therapy and working with an autistic client who does not notice these types of surroundings and watching her actions around bees, etc... (lol) I realized that when people say bees can sense fear, they dont mean that the bees magically know your thoughts and will attack you. It just means that if you REACT out of fear, they will be bothered and MAYBE attack. Because they feel like they are being attacked first. When it comes to bees, you should be AWARE of your surroundings but not paranoid/irrational about them lol

I had about 10 large lavender plants on a landscaped bank next to my house. I was always a little nervous mulching around them due to the high bee activity. I had to convince myself that stinging humans is not what bees are after in their lives. I was able to get comfortable around them by just going about my business and never once got stung. I was glad that I was able to provide a good source of nectar for them. I knew Summer was truly over when the lavender was picked clean.

I spent 50 years being afraid of bees. I now have 2 hives. I still suit up. I probably always will. I also am allergic. I went through the allergy battery, I am allergic. I still am going to keep bees. NO FAST MOTION AROUND HONEYBEES. Slow steady motion does not draw attention.

i'm doing the same this spring...going to the allergist in February, but no matter the results, I'm going to still keep bees...suited up of course, and have epi pen ready...it's going to be amazing and so worth it! good luck to you!!!
@joerowland6074 жыл бұрын
@@michellecahill4838 I can take 5 or 6 stings with swelling. 50 put me to sleep for two days. Be absolutely aware that you can still get stung through your suit, through your goat skin bee gloves and through a pair of jeans, and I know this to be true by experience. The information that I do not know about is whether after 2 years of vaccinations ( I was supposed to take vaccinations weekly for 10 years to acquire full immunity) the allergy I have am I becoming more immune or more allergic. I am not a doctor so I haven't a clue, but for now if I don't have adverse reactions( more so than already), I will move forward. But after being stung I pay attention to the sting area, my cognitive senses, and my breathing especially my throat. I have had allergies all my life I know the symptoms I am aware. If your going to keep bees and you have worse allergies than I you probably shouldn't work bees by yourself. Have a buddy in case you need it. If you haven't went through the allergy battery it sucked for me but that was 40 years ago, it might be different now. I HAVE RUSSIAN BEES. DON'T GET THEM THEY ARE PISSY MEAN AND THEY WILL STING JUST FOR FUN. David has gentle stock. He has a reputation for his gentle bees. Order bees from him. You do not want Russian bees. That is the best advice I can give you. Oh keep Benadryl as well as the epi. One other thing if you get stung remove the stinger pour honey on the sting and cover with a bandage, of course after the epi if you have to go there.

I’ve got a unique problem. I must have some sort of sign on my back that says, “sting me” because I get stung every summer for no apparent reason from all types of bees, hornets, wasps. I got stung last summer while working on my car in the garage. I’ve even had a honey bee land on my face and start crawling around. I remember my dad watching it crawl around on my forehead before it stung me. I went from happy that a honey bee found my forehead as a great place to rest, to angry that it stung me for no reason. I was sitting in a lawn chair. What can I do to make myself less of a target? Is it my smell?

My mother taught me to love bees, and everytime I see one distressed, I jump to their rescue. People freak out when I put bees in my hand and "feed" them with sweetened water (with water or honey, depends where I am). The last one I saved was in a school, kids were about to stomp on it because they were scared of it while the poor bee was in the ground, tired and dehydrated. It was a magical moment because after I picked it up and gave some water, kids could see its tongue coming out and were fascinated and their fear turned into curiosity and finally I managed to leave it in a shady safe place. Bees are essential to this world!

I actually dont even suit up to mow in front of my hives.......even the more aggressive hives don't seem to care. @phillee28144 жыл бұрын
With me, it's putting myself in that situation (whatever it is) while doing something I have to concentrate on - once you can do whatever it is without it needing all your concentration, you will be acclimatised. I conquered my severe fear of heights (my wife used to joke I got giddy standing on a tall kerb) by learning to fly, and now hold PPLs under both UK (CAA) and US (FAA) regimes. When starting, EVERYTHING needs your full concentration, and taking off you are looking at the sky, in cruise, it's like a moving map, and it's only on approach to landing that you "feel" high up - but when you are making your first few dozen landings, nothing is familiar and in muscle memory, your brain is racing trying to make sure you get everything right, and you are as busy as a one-armed paper-hanger trying to get everything done, so there just isn''t time or mental capacity to be scared. With bees it was just studying them, although I was never anything like as worried by them as heights. So yes, exposure, but CONTROLLED exposure.

I have been keeping bees for 7 years now, and still struggle with fear at times. I think this is mostly because of an incident I had during my first year. When I first started I rarely wore a veil or anything. Then, one day, I was just finishing up with the hives, closed then up and started walking away when something spooked them. I ended up with several stings around my eye. From that day on I have worn a veil and some type of gloves whenever I am in a hive. The extra gear really doesn't hinder me, so I OK with it. Great video just the same though. I really enjoy the information you put out.

I love bees It's wasps I can't stand I had a few battles with two nests last summer to reclaim my back deck after getting two fierce stings in the back of the head. Two stings that literally had me thinking I was shot by a gun from the sound of it darting and slapping into my head. I went from scared to pissed off as lived in peace with these things for a year at least with no problems. I never swatted at them or messed with them. It was when I went under the deck to get a hose to water plants a nest was 3 feet from my head when I got stung. I killed the protectors of the nest and then put the nest on the ground to let bugs eat the brood and it was unbelievable how fast ants and various other insects found and swarmed it. I gave it my best shot co existing with these things they knew of my presence as I did theirs daily, it was my mistake thinking we had an understanding not to mess with each other.

Funny story on wasps. I was at a Boy Scout camp over a summer and went to use a out door latrine and failed to notice a small umbrella nest. So as I was taking a piss, one of the bastards came down, landed, and stung me on the back of the neck. I then made the dumb choice of grabbing it to get it off. My right pointer finger was hit and I ran out with my pants down screaming. Every one there was laughing at first then kinda felt bad to learn I got stung 3 times in direct contact with a wasp nest. To this day I always look up in a outdoor bathroom.

Well bees don’t bite and these are honeybees so they would die if they stung
@St34mpunk4 жыл бұрын
@Cadejo Yes, they are honeybees, they will 99% of the time die if they sting you.

What about just when im trying to take like the garbage out and a bees flys near me? I have been scared of bees since i got stung at age 4 on the back by some yellow jackets. What do I do if im not near like a bee yard? The problem is im scared of getting stung.

How do bees tell difference between their lets say owner and some other beekeper? Or they don't?

I don't fear bees. All I do when a bee is flying next to my face is swat, then sprint the heck out of that area and run inside!

Ummmm.BiboShank you are aware that a bee can fly faster than you can run right. What your doing if you really do that is asking for the bee to sting you. And trust me if you run they will sting you in the back.
