Gold tutorial. Literally best deadlift tutorial on KZbin. Simple straight to the facts.
@antonpwr Жыл бұрын
Simple and precise! I’ve noticed people struggling with deadlifts often stand too wide and use no toe angle, often uses thicker shoes too. They also seem to have the bar way too close to the shin instead of over the midfoot. Also, as for hip height - visualising your hip as an anchor for the lift will ”anchor” the hip at a good height in many cases. Using a closer stance with a bit of toe angle, bar above midfoot, make arms long, press from the ground until bar reaches knees, push hips through -> will help anyone that struggles with deadlift.
Who would've thought we would get the BEST conventional deadlift instructional video from Sumo Jamal? But we just did. And it's the darn best nuts and bolts conventional deadlift advice youtube has to offer. Even better explained than Ed Coan's Squat University video. What I like about Jamal is he almost puts a disclaimer that all people are built differently and says that what he demonstrates works for most people. He always says that without preaching. A very grounded teacher. Go and reclaim the the title Jamal! All the best!

Thanks for sharing your tips! I'm a conventional puller and have been stuck at 465 lbs and think I should be able to get 500. I'm sure my technique is what's inhibiting my progress. Where do you position your shoulders for maximum efficiency? I'm 54 and 200 lbs, and am cool with a 4-day training split and not interested in gaining weight in order to hit my 500 lbs goal.
@mehdineverquits Жыл бұрын
Trying to get past 525 lbs at the moment. My form breaks down really badly after 465 lbs. thinking of going back and fully mastering the 405-450s with good form and proper glute & hamstring activation before I move forward.

8:46 You mentioned toes turned out, but they look pretty dang straight here. Is that to get more quad drive off the bottom?
@EthanFox-yn5ej Жыл бұрын
Hey Jamal, thanks for the great tutorial. The-slack pull information is particularly insightful. One thing I don't think you touched on is shin angle & bar placement over the foot. I notice that you start your pulls with very bent knees, and it even looks like the bar is closer to your toes instead of your midfoot, and there is lot of calf engagement off the floor. It looks like your bar path isn't straight up and down, but rather starts over your toes and is then pulled in. To me this seems inefficient, but I assume you've found the ideal form for your body and strengths. I find that when I bend my knees to the degree that you do, my speed off the floor is slow. I prefer much more vertical shins. In general, who do you advise to have vertical shins vs. more knee flexion? Thanks deadlift GOAT

Right on time. Did my first ever Powerlifting training block and ended it today with a 200kg conventional pull. Felt strong and smooth, but watching it back it seems my hips are a little high before pulling. Perfect timing to start correcting that next block using this video. Got any special tips for tall people? I'm 1.97m and have seemingly long femurs. Some positioning feels tough. Thanks for the video man! Really appreciate it and love the tips!

Newbie here. Very appreciate your video on the deadlift. What should we feel or not feel with the back brace during deadlift?
@andreas9513 Жыл бұрын
Two questions. How far away is the bar from your chins (middle of your shoe or somewhere else), and do you drag the bar into your chins, or is the pinky finger technique all you do for lat engagement?
@antonpwr Жыл бұрын
If you look closely, the bar stays over midfoot and makes contact with his shins when he reaches down to the bar. Having the bar too close to your shins will remove the possibility of using leg drive and will put you in an awkward position. Dont overthing your lats. Be tight and brace from the start and make arms long.
