I've come back after mastering this a bit more now and it's still tricky for 1 main reason: 1000e - e = 999e and that's how the fraction becomes 473/999 you basically treat the e as a 1 when subtracting it from 1000e and that's important to remember. But also, another quick thing you can do to save yourself some time; when you're trying to get the same amount of digits in whole form as the decimal by multiplying in factors of 10, instead of doing it x10 multiple times until you get those digits... you can just look at the place value of the decimals and multiply by that amount. E.g. 0.473... 473 ends in the thousandths column, so you multiply by 1000 right away instead of 10's 0.27..... ends in the hundredths column, so you multiply by 100 to equal 27.27.... I'm sure lots of people already knew this, but it saves you time if you didn't know

0:23 - 0:42 the number is 0.473473473... and so on "A dot above the first and last digits that recurr" why can't there be dots on top of all those three numbers? Why just the first and last? They're all recurring right? How am I supposed to know 0.4' 7 3' is 0.473 *473473* instead of 0.473 *4343* ? Only 4 and 3 were dotted so I'm a bit confused. Again many thanks!! 🙏🙏
@sexistatheist6464
@sexistatheist6464 4 жыл бұрын
You only put dots above the first and last digits which recur, because that's how things have historically been done in maths. The idea behind that is to show where the recurring sequence begins and ends... and if you recognise that the dots represent the beginning and end of a sequence, it can be taken as a given that every digit in-between the ones with dots above them are also part of that sequence. This can also save time, since if you have to write a long sequence of recurring digits, you would need to write alot of dots as well using your proposed method, whereas the standard practice allows you to show where the sequence begins and ends with just two dots. No will stop you putting dots above all the recurring digits if you want, but you could lose marks in an exam for that, since that's not the standard practice. If you're having trouble making sense of it, just think of the two dots as 'bookends' to the recurring sequence.

Recruiting just means the number goes on forever, so the space after the decimal point will always have a three no matter how much you multiply it

A simpler version of this is lets Say you have 0.6 (recurring) add 6 in the top as the fraction, and if since theres only one number after the decimal you will add one 9 if you have more then one let's say .27 you add two 9 for the bottom number and if you can reduce it (I recommend TI-30Xa calculator) using the a b/c button and then clicking the = button to simplify it
