Would you consider cooking a steak in the dishwasher? It turns out many would, as lots of people are using the appliance most commonly associated with cleaning plates and glasses for cooking. Putting meat, be it steak, salmon, or another piece of protein, in an airtight bag and into the dishwasher is a variation on the French method of cooking known as sous vide, which involves cooking your food in a vacuum-sealed bag. Chef Michelle Doll showed Inside Edition how it’s done.

That is such a waste of water and electricity to cook food in a dishwasher. Not only that, but the last thing I need is possible undercooked food, as some dishwashers take longer than others, and it depends how hot the water is. As someone who takes Culinary Arts in high school, we don’t have rules on cooking food in dishwashers, but if I was allowed to make rules like that, I’d consider it a violation.
@royisdabest

@Anonymous-il8yl
@Anonymous-il8yl 2 жыл бұрын
@@royisdabest Dude, FYI, I did watch the whole video, and I know about souviding food. I am just saying that doing it in a dishwasher is not necessarily a very “approved” method. For instance for a steak: souviding is submerging steak in a sealed bag in boiling or hot water for however long. A dishwasher is not submerging it, it really more steams it. I hope I cleared up any confusion.

when i was living in a slum trailer that was falling apart... a working dishwasher was the only thing we had. hot temps for a long time... bingo! getting our stove working again was the biggest relief, though as dishwasher coking is expensive in water. its also risky if your dishwasher doesn't have a longer dry cycle like ours did (that's where most of the heat is from).

The dishwasher shouldn't reach temperatures high enough to degrade the plastic and that is actually the main problem here. The temperature dishwashers reach is below the recommended to kill pathogens in poultry, beef and pork. I wouldn't trust that the detergent won't degrade the plastic over time though.
@Un1234l
@Un1234l 2 жыл бұрын
Food safety isn't just a function of temperature. It's a function of time as well. Cooking food at a lower temperature for longer will eventually match the food safety levels of cooking food at a higher temperature for a shorter time. This is how people pasteurize foods that would go bad when heated to a higher temperature.

Okay but what’s the point? Doesn’t save money, chance of contamination, if you have a dishwasher you most likely have a stove so what’s the point in not using the stove which cooks the food way better

It’s perfectly safe, a lot of people make dishwasher salmon and it’s actually yummy.

I like how he made it very clear that if you don’t have a dishwasher or air tight bags, use a pot and ziplock bags! My first thought was that water would touch the 🥩

They were only showing how to get a near vacuum seal on a standard plastic zipper bag before cooking it in the dishwasher, for those who don't have a vacuum sealer but still want to try this method for some reason.

The old CRT Moniters back a decade or so would get hot enough that you could put a can of spaghettio's up, or an MRE, or a cold Pizza. The even older one's that blinked frame rates got hot enough you could melt cheese on bread, or have a small ceramic pot melt cheese for a cheese fondue. You get inventive when you see the opportunity of a heat sink and you have spare parts around to rig something together while doing work.
