I happened to swing by and see you cooking up some steamers just the way we used to back in the day... I sure do have GOOD memories of those feasts! When I was in summer camp as a young boy, they had an official clam bake - the big hole dug in the ground, the fires on the rocks, lined with seaweed, then the clams and lobsters laid in layers in seaweed with corn on the cob, then covered with a tarp for an hour or so - Never was I so happy with eating the bounty of the ocean! Wish I was there to help you consume some of those steamers there, Mr. Ed! You do it right! Have a great weekend, amigo!

Hello Sam, thank you for swinging by. (I was away from the computer yesterday and this morning). That's an awesome story my friend. I'm not proud to say but I have never been to that style of clam bake. I would love to experience one though. I wish you could visit Maine for a steamer feed! Thanks Sam it really put a smile on my face to see your name here and your comment. It's a beautiful weekend, I hope it is likewise on the Island. Have a great weekend! Cheers Edman

Hello Mr., Garry welcome back. Robert and Haru? The Kamakura Gardener I love Robert's channel it's always entertaining and relaxing. Newfoundland is a very beautiful place. I'd like to visit there some day. Say Hello to Mrs. Betty from me please. If scallops weren't so expensive I think I'd eat them way more, might just be my favorite! Thanks for being here, please come often and I'll do the same. Cheers Edman

@@homesteadedman4784 Thanks for the welcoming spirit as it seems to be ingrained in most every Mainer I have talked to! We will be looking for larger acreage plots (50+ acres) of land most likely north of Bangor and remote. I would prefer it to take at least an hour to get to a "walmart town". This trip is mainly just to see the areas and decide where to focus a search but it will most definitely be out a ways.

Stumbled upon your channel - Maine is my favorite! My parents brought by me up when I was just a little kid and am now in my mid 40’s… my Dad and I would always get a bunch of steamers every year on our vacation! This brings me right back to that time!

Great video we just had lobsta n steamas yesterday we soak ours In cold salt water for an hour before steaming so they purge any extra sand out and seams to actually make them a bit sweeter tasting. I've never heard of the vinegar and butter can't wait to give that a try thanks.

Soaking steamers that are not broken, does not purge anything. Healthy non-cracked steamers have no sand inside of them. If they did they would be dead. Any dirt you see in the water, after soaking them, surely comes from the dirt outside of the shell. It is a common misconception.

I wondered if you were going to say you enjoyed steamers more than lobster. Me too. We enjoy cooking them outside and eating them while standing around the picnic table withe them piled high on the table, whether there are two of us or ten of us. Sometimes I think eating steamed MAINE seafood outside enhances the whole experience.

Hello knpn4jc5v welcome. Thanks for the nice comment. Sounds like you guys know how to enjoy a good seafood feed. I agree cooking outside is the best, maybe that's why I enjoy camping so much. I think that steamers are sweeter and taste better than lobster. Lobsters to me are too much work for not enough meat. Thanks for watching have a great weekend! Cheers Edman

I don't put any water in the pot. The clams contain enough water. Put the clams in the pot over a medium flame and cover. There will be plenty of broth when they are cooked. Sometimes I'll add beer or white wine for flavor.
