The clay pot brings some earthly flavor or scent into the soup! Because clay comes from the soil, and that soil (clay, treated, and burnt) has a way of resonating in our foods. Anyway, kudos to you for reminding many of us here especially in the diaspora!

In my place we call it ofe akwu. The method of preparation is basically the same . I don't know about some of the spices you used, but we use the banga spice, and then add ugu and scent leaves. We eat it with rice. I guess the starch is garri. Will make it with your own recipe and I will check if there is difference in taste from our own recipe. Lots of love Sisiyemmi 💕💕.
