DeGas for Beans 1. Spread the beans on the countertop to check for stones and spoiled grains 2. Wash and rinse the beans twice with fresh clean water. 3. Soak the beans for at least 12 hours, changing the water every 4 hours. If you can. 4. Boil the beans on the stove and stop the boiling and rinse beans with clean water. Do this 3 times. This removes the foam 5. Cook the beans with fresh water and add: cardamom, fennel seeds, rosmery, carom seeds (Ajwain seeds), bay leaves and ginger. Place all these seeds in a tea bag for easy removal after cooking. 6. Add all the spices you like such as garlic, chile, cummin, etc. 7. Cook the beans until tender.

I cook mine in my Instant Pot and have no problems with excessive gas but that's probably because my digestive system is used to beans because they are my primary source of protein!

Hey dear, you said try to avoid baking soda, just to ask, would baking soda cause any unnecessary issues? Baking soda also reduce gas and bloating right? Or why should one avoid it coz I really struggle with gas and heartburn sometimes when I eat legumes

Soaking legumes helps and also use spices like ginger, garlic, curry leaves, cumin seeds, carom seeds in cooking legumes. My doctor has advised me not to use baking soda in cooking as it messes up the digestive system.

No, I avoid cooking soda when possible. Make sure you soak it well for few hours in lukewarm water.

Hello Miss, the gas from chickpeas comes mainly from the skin of chickpea. So after soaking in water, rub the chickpeas gently with your hands. Do this under water, and you will see the skins of the chickpeas float to the surface. Remove them and discard. Your chickpeas will now look quite naked, but be assured that it will not give you gas.

ive been eating chick peas for years and always experience rear end gases!! its quite embarrasing. I´ll take note of your advice and cook from scratch removing the scum. Fingers crossed

Also add any spices like asafoetida, curry leaves, garlic, ginger, onions to chickpeas while making any recipe. Eat fennel seeds, or cumin seed water after eating chickpeas.

If you are using canned chickpeas then they need peeling as peels fall off. If certain recipes like hummus demands peeling off the skin then I would peel the skin. Otherwise we use it for cooking with peels
