I’m trying this right now! My husband is Hispanic and if I don’t cook rice well then I’m not a very good wife to him in the cooking department! Ppppllleeaaase let this turn out well🙏. I’ve tried the other methods and I always come out with either mushy or hard rice 😡. I will edit this after it’s done! After: it made perfect rice!!!!!!!!??? Why have we been doing it the other way!? I even walked away with the fire too high and a few mins before it was done and it had dried up(did not burn). I just added more water, brought to a boil and then drained and steamed and it is PERFECT! 🎉

Instead of draining the water off, one could use it as stock or boil other vegs in it... Just try to reuse it. Boil vegetables and use the same water to cook rice with...etc etc Happy cooking

You really need to wash rice a few times before you cook it to get most of the arsenic out. that foam on top of the water as it cooks shows it should have been washed first. that foam is full of arsenic. rinse the lid off after using it for pouring the water out because that foam will have stuck to the lid and you end up putting it right back into the rice.
@Iwhoiam9997 жыл бұрын
it also washes off a lot of the vitamins and nutrients that are good for you. the amount of arsenic is minimal
@cavemanjoe79727 жыл бұрын
CSAcitizen Feather If you're worried about the levels of arsenic in brown rice, just eat white rice, or potatoes, or beans, for that matter. Jeez.
@crunch98767 жыл бұрын
The amount of arsenic in rice is so minimal it's pretty much non existent
@zirconce8 жыл бұрын
This is the spaghetti method, if you will. I think you might lose some nutrients when you pour away the extra water, compared with the method with more or less the exact quantity of cooking water. Of course, you might burn the rice in the end if you leave unattended or have the fire too strong. pros and cons!

Thanks for all of your videos, I enjoy them very much. I tried your method of rice cooking, it worked great with long grain brown Basmati rice, however I normally cook two cups of rice at a time, do I need to adjust water more or boiling time for a two cup rice meal ? Thanks again and have a good trapping season!
@Meattrapper8 жыл бұрын
frank davis The more rice you cook the more water you'll need. You have to have enough water to last 30 minutes of cooking time without boiling dry. I normally use a 4 to 1 ratio of water to rice to keep it simple. Also a nice simmering boil is fine, no need fir a furious boil. I like this methid because its simple enough to use in the woods. Hope this helps.
@Meattrapper8 жыл бұрын
frank davis Also, in the woods in cold weather after the boil you can wrap pot in a sleeping bag or towel to insulate it and keep it steaming.

I'm a little confused. Some rinse the rice. Some don't. Some say soak rice 30 minutes. Some don't. Some rinse and then soak rice 30 minutes before cooking. Some cook at good boil the whole time. Some cook until boil, then turn down to medium low and cover pot. Some never cover pot. One lady used 1 Tbs. Olive oil and one 1 and 1/2 Tbs. Butter and sauteed rice to light brown (like rice aroni) before adding water. So yes im confused. I followed the paxkage direction, no soak, no rinse. Bring to boil, then cover and turn down to medium low heat. I cooked it forever. Still crunchy. Maybe it was because i stirred it now and then so it wouldn't burn. It was whole grain, long grain brown rice. Any suggestions. I gotta learn this. I want it in my dog's food and i want it. I love Minute rice two pack little brown rice. You cook in the microwave. The problem is the little cups are truly little. And cost $3,29 for one lttle two pack. I could eat a two pack every day. Then if i get for the dog it really cuts into my limited grocery budget. Or for $3.69 i can buy a big bag of long grain whole brown rice, more budget friendly. I don't mind the time or cooking as long as the rice comes out okay, meaning not still hard and crunchy. Can you advise me?

During the cooking process you drain the excess water. When you drain the water down the sink you are also dumping the vitamins down the sink. Do you see the discoloration in the water? that is your Vitamins.
Or, that could be from not washing the rice first?
