I came across your video and I saw how you prepared brown rice. After watching your method, I would like to add in my two cents. I'm a retired Chef and I while cooking in Dubai, I was taught by and Chef from India how to make brown rice that is fluffy and doesn't stick. Here it go. Measure out your rice and soak it in room temp water for a least 15 minutes. While that is soaking, add enough water to cover while cooking. Bring your water to a boil. Rinse your rice until the water is clear( keeping it in water still). when your water is ready, use a spoon and place the rice in the boiling water until all the rice is in the water. Boil until your receive the tenderness you desire (about 17-25 min depending on the thickness of your pot). I hope this helped.

I've been a chef for 24yrs , your video was really good and informative. But..... there's always a but you missed out one-step soaking rice before cooking Soaking rice speeds up the cooking by kick-starting the absorption of water before the rice even enters the pot. By letting rice soak for 30 minutes or so, you can reduce the cooking time of most rice varieties by about 20 percent. Soaking rice can also affect the flavour of the finished dish. Acetylpyrroline, the flavour component in aromatic rice varieties (such as jasmine, basmati, wild pecan, Wehani, and Texmati) that is mainly responsible for their characteristic popcorn-like aroma, dissipates during cooking. The longer your rice is over the heat, the less aromatic it will be. So by soaking the rice and shortening the cooking time, you get more flavorful results. The best kitchen gadget I bought was a £20 or $28 rice cooker, you get the same result each time, you can get them cheap just get one with keep warm function

No flavor in that crap. As a retire chef please try this . First go to Whole Foods or a health food store and buy a collection of rice , short ,long and most important RED rice! That’s one of the secrets. Don’t buy cheap brown rice !Mix them all up and place them in a container. Then soak the amount in water for a 2 hours or more. Sauté 1/2 cp of chopped onions, add a tbs of garlic . Use olive oil 2-3 Tbs. Cook 3-5 minutes. Add one cup of mixed rice and cook for 1 min coating the rice in oil. Add 3 cups of water and some chicken base (Better than Boullion is the best) . Add a bay leaf , pepper and about 4 Tbs of Soy Sause .Bring to a boil and simmer for 45 min. Put a lid on the pot. You might have to add more water and salt . When it’s done add 1 Tbs of Sesame Oil. You’ll never go back again to bad brown rice!
