I found that pre roasting the brown rice or any unpolished rice makes it/them easier to cook then water ratio is 1cup rice:2cups water. I dry roast a big batch at a time then keep in a containers so I don't need to roast every single time 👌

I cook it in lots of water and then I strain it, it gets rid of all arsenic as well, much healthier.

the proper way to convey the level of water required is to use the scale engraved into the rice pot. The marking provided is pretty accurate for white rice. 2 cups of white rice requires water filled to the level 2 marking on the pot. so there is no ambiguity in how much water is required.

@thavzjanan7613. Thank you for the question. Yes, it feels good after having brown rice as it is not too starchy. No bloating sensation in the tummy as well. We did not just have brown rice all these years, we also cooked white rice and also sticky rice too. 😀😀

Very helpful video! Thank you! I'm making brown rice for the first time and wasn't sure how to cook it. Is the cooking time for brown rice longer than white rice?
@HomeCookingwithSomjit
@HomeCookingwithSomjit 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Zero, thank you for the question 😄 I'm not sure as I've not paid attention to the cooking time as I've always relied on a manual rice cooker. For brown rice, once it's cooked, I would suggest to stir the rice gently, cover the lid and allow the residual heat to continue cooking the rice. Hope your brown rice turns out well 😄 Happy cooking!

@@HomeCookingwithSomjit It turned out perfectly thank you! I made 2 and a half cups of rice and the rice cooker took about 45 mins to cook it which is a bit longer than white rice for mine.

Yes. You can't rush home to cook it...😊...sometimes I would prepare more than I need for that meal and put the rest in the fridge for another day or two.

No flavor in that crap. As a retire chef please try this . First go to Whole Foods or a health food store and buy a collection of rice , short ,long and most important RED rice! That’s one of the secrets. Don’t buy cheap brown rice !Mix them all up and place them in a container. Sauté 1/2 cp of chopped onions, add a tbs of garlic . Use olive oil 2-3 Tbs. Cook 3-5 minutes. Add one cup of mixed rice and cook for 1 min coating the rice in oil. Add 3 cups of water and some chicken base (Better than Boullion is the best) . Add a bay leaf , pepper and about 4 Tbs of Soy Sause .Bring to a boil and simmer for 45 min. Put a lid on the pot. You might have to add more water and salt . When it’s done add 1 Tbs of Sesame Oil. You’ll never go back again to bad brown rice!

Hi Wild Otter, thank you for the suggestion 😀 Over here in Malaysia, we have an abundance of different types of rice that can be chosen. This particular of brown rice brand that my family uses is a premium type. We do not need to mix different grains as it readily available. In addition, this method of cooking rice is how we Asians cook rice at home - it is not flavoured (as you have suggested). This type of rice is always paired with flavourful dishes (such as chicken curry, stir fried vegetables, etc), while your suggested preparation sounds perfect for flavoured rice, such as tomato rice, briyani, yam rice, etc. Hope it helps 😀

You don't need to wash brown rice. Why? Because you wash away much of the nutrients. You put it to boil in enough water to cover it and some some olive oil, cover, and leave it on a slow fire until the water is all gone. The oil keeps it grainy in addition to adding flavour.
