Seonkyoung: Your method for preparing rice is more thorough than how Gordon Ramsay teaches. I followed his method, but my rice turns out so-so. Now I see one must wash the rice 3-4 times to remove the starch to keep the rice from becoming a pasty mess. I do enhance my rice with cadaman pods and star anise for an incredible aroma and flavor.

Thank you!! I had to learn to cook my rice differently for these authentic recipes. I also now have like 6 different types of rice at home LOL 😂. Maybe more (But wild rice isn’t technically a rice.) 🤔 Lol. I was watching a few different videos, and I think I understand now, why this rice is made differently from how my Tía (Aunty) taught me. The first time I tried “sticky rice”, I was NOT a fan. I thought the rice was too mushy and bland. Not realizing at the time that it was due to poor cooking/execution and quality/selection/grain of rice. Now I have a recipe to follow and can make my own!! I got so excited at the start of your video because without having seen “THIS PARTICULAR VIDEO” I managed to buy the exact same brand of short grain rice!! Yay!! Lol 😆 I really enjoy both you and Ms. Maangchii’s videos!! I’ve combined both your styles when I made mandu and they turned out EXCELLENT!! My family DEVOURED THEM!! I wish I could share the pictures!! My family and I love Korean food and I’m enjoying learning to make these amazing dishes that I hear about and see on my shows. 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙 We eat and ate and are eating so well thanks to you ladies sharing your recipes with us. Thank You!! It’s something to look forward to during these difficult times. I actually learned to use chopsticks 4 weeks ago......and now I won’t eat any Eastern Food without them. Lol 😂.

Keep in mind that different rice cooks differently according to how much water you use. Like short grain rice, or long grain
@joegonzalez4470 Жыл бұрын
What is the difference? I usually buy long grain rice. When I cook it, it comes out mushy. I've tried other rice that was already cooked, and it wasn't all mushy like mine. Am I using too much water? Thanks in advance 🙏

I know this is an old comment so hopefully you can cook rice perfectly now, but the most common reason why rice is too sticky is because it hasn't been washed properly. You need to wash the excess starch off of the rice.

@Mimush88 Жыл бұрын
Did u figure it out or no Bcuz it gets goopy if you disturb the rice while it’s cooking Opening the lid/ stirring / etc So you have to cover it and not open the lid until 10 mins after you’ve removed it from the heat That’s why it’s so important to remember to set a timer so you know exactly when to go in

I really only use jasmine rice. I get the three Kings brand at my local asian market. 18.99 for a 20lb back. That will last my family of 5 a couple months. Not sure how long it will last now because I've been getting a lot more into asian cooking because it's getting too expensive to feed all of us on a standard western diet. Meat is so expensive and with that being the main part of meals, it costs alot. Still cheaper than fast food, but when you're spending $40-$50 on average a week on meat alone it gets to be too much. I did food shopping for 5 days and i spent just under $20 On meat this week. For breakfast each day we've been eating white rice cooked in chicken broth with a fried egg that was seasoned with soy and fish sauce. Then leftovers for lunch.

Long grain rice is different. It doesn't stick together. It is used in Chinese cuisine and popular in America. Koreans and Japanese use short grain rice which is stickier. Taste is similar although the texture is very different.

What is the rice to water ratio for japanese brown rice? Does it take the same amount of time to cook brown rice?
@SeonkyoungLongest9 жыл бұрын
Lyna Arlyna For brown rice, you need add 2 cups water for 1 cup brown rice. 3 cups water for 1 1/2cups brown rice, so how many cups of brown rice you are cooking, you will need double amount of water. Actually around rice takes a lot longer time to cook than white rice. You will need to simmer over low heat for about 40 to 45 minutes.
