I bought Arduino and implemented a little Blynk APP. Now I can see the air/water temperatures, water level, light level, daily light summary, water flow through filter and leakage alarms on my phone with notifications when the temperature is too high, filter flow is too low, or some water leakage is detected. I would also like to add pH sensor, but that is a bit too expensive. I highly recommend something like this, because then you immediately know that something bad happened and you need to start calling your friends :)

Nice one Mark. To reduce heat I remove the top cover, add air pump to increase surface agitation and an oxidator to increase O2 level in my tank at the attic (gets pretty warm in the summer)> I'm also preparing to move this tank to my other tanks in the garage where the temp is 5deg lower :D
@MJAquascaping3 жыл бұрын
Nice one! Yeah those oxidators are interesting, do you think they make a big difference in oxygen levels?

@@MJAquascaping Yes if you choose the right size, H2O2 concetration and number of catalyst stones. They are big though for larger aquariums and not easy to hide. I only use them in warm periods.

I used a pc fan in the past, with an electronic temperature module. DIY solution, that worked. Yet i found that since i`m running AC in that room, the fan wasn`t required. The evaporation was high, I had to top off my aquarium 5 liters every 3 days. As i mentioned, not using that solution anymore. I need to figure out a way to program my AC while i`m gone, plus perhaps purchase an ATO (auto top off). Then i`m good. I like that you mentioned the surveilance camera, indeed that helps. For fish food, i have 2 auto feeders, different models. I choose a german brand, that works best. All good there. Last year I asked a neigbour to top off and fertilize every 3 days. He did top off, but... he said he was afraid to fertilize, and he didn`t. For 2 weeks. I came back home to a messy planted aquarium. :))))))))))

Great informative video as i've myself been worried about this. I have a question regarding your setup at 1:05-1:10. I am guessing you are using some kind of water pump to refill your tank there. Would you mind sharing what exactly you are using?
@MJAquascaping3 жыл бұрын
Yep exactly! I use this pump amzn.to/3d6pZCq attached to a garden hose. I'll either place the pump in the sink or in a bucket and just fill the tank with tapwater. Simple but effective
@siapa89043 жыл бұрын
As for me usually before leaving : adding auto feeder, set timer for CO2 and Lighting for 4 hours a day without changing light intensity, not adding fertilizer at all before going. Set your lily pipe out as low as possible because water level will decrease dramatically so at least when that happened the lily out still below water level not spraying water every where, and... hope for the best.

Hey, always a pleasure watching you videos! As you currently have started to prepare a bigger scape tank I'm wondering how you manage the water exchange. It's more then just one bucket and handling isn't that easy in an apartment, right? So, would you like to share how you're managing this and if you use pure tap water out of the tap directly or do you store it for a while or do you even use osmosis water etc. Looking forward to your feedback! :-)
@MJAquascaping3 жыл бұрын
Hey Oliver! The water change in the big shallow is really easy! I drain the water with a long hose directly into the toilet. And for refilling I use the same hose connected to a submersible pump that i place in my kitchen sink. So yeah just tap water!
@ol87193 жыл бұрын
@@MJAquascaping I thought so..., some aquarists are concerning that due to different pressure in the water delivery system the gas composition is quite different and this may have negative impact on bio system. But well, good to hear that I don't have to be too much worried about it. Maybe, you next clip is about a changing water how-to. Sounds easy, but I think for many it's a topic, especially, if housemates are not aquarists ;-)
