Tracing paper is made up of similar fibers as manufactured parchment paper. I use the tracing paper from the dollar story. This makes a good non stick layer between the press and the backer boards. It also works well on covers or between pages where you think there might be some sticking.

Omg yes!!! I have an eruption green one and it’s not just the best car, but best EV I’ve ever owned. Did the same, bought into a community Solar farm and now the cars, generator, house, heat and ac are all powered by solar…we are saving thousands a year like you!

That is actually amazing. I think the humidity chamber is the more concerning piece because I would probably oversaturate my book.

If you think you have over saturated a book carefully take it out of the chamber and let it air dry over night. The comic book paper will still contain extra moisture, and the book/spine can be pressed at that point. I would put extra sheets of paper or a backing board in the center of the book to protect the pages from the staples during the folded over/new spine pressing step.

Be very careful to use light pressure - thinking heavy pressure will flatten the book better is the biggest mistake and will lead to popped or ripped staples. Also, carefully examine the staples to make sure they can handle this technique. If they are already fragile, no go.

What's the likelihood that the paper returns to the spine roll position?

24 hours rest in the cold press is the key to helping prevent that.

Very interresting. But is it pushing the staples through the cover? I see so many books with "sunken staples", is it something caused by bad pressers? Can that be avoided?

Sunken staples definitely happen with too much pressure - the key for spine roll correction is to go much, much lighter than you normally would with a press then re-aligning the spine. After that, back to the normal pressure.

The problem is people get greedy and either adjust a poorly manufactured book, or they use it to push spine ticks to the back. That isn't repair or correction, but changing the book itself to deceive people.

Absolutely great points - make sure the staples/cover can handle it. There was a huge uproar in the CGC forums of that spine tick hiding technique - it's pretty easy to spot now. Awful.

You're using way too many steps for this process, you don't need 4 hours in the HC and then 24 hours for each side, that's just ridiculous

I have a square bound Silver Surfer issue with the spine at an angle. 📐 The books spine is at about an angle of 70 degrees. Is there a way to make the book have a 90 degree angle?
