Man, you remind me of my Dad. A retired factory maintenance worker who fixed everything or would improvise like Macgyver. He'd set up shop in the morning (coffee) by the afternoon (beer) as he fixed the neighbor's lawn mowers, washing machines, microwaves , vacuums etc. In the evening (whiskey) he had a board meeting ( 5 neighbor's picking up whatever they dropped off for him to fix while having a drink with him.) He charged them absolutely nothing. In fact sometimes he paid for the parts himself. He was in asset to his community and a great father. Everyone misses him. Keep up the good work my friend.

This channel is ole Yogi’s happy place, lol! I got 40 + old live oak and water oak trees and their roots in this Florida sandy mucky ground that it has turned my yard into a riding mower demolition derby. I’ve got an old JD 105 that has so many parts welded on it from other mowers I call it Frankenmower 😂 Had the wind knocked out of me a few times from the steering wheel where I wasn’t paying attention 🤕. I inherited my Husqvarna 48in mower from my dad after he passed. It is 15 years old or so and still has the original anti-scalp rollers. He showed me the logic behind them. I took his word for it because he always kept his equipment in top-notch shape. Heck, he had a 40 year old Sears push mower that only had the blade, wheels and pull cord replaced.

I run a craftsman riding lawnmower from 1987 and it's still in great condition. One thing I noticed for parts, some stuff like starter solenoids count as engine parts. I called craftsman last summer looking for a starter solenoid and the lady didn't know what I was talking about. So in some cases you can't buy specific parts from your mower's manufacturer but have to get them from other vendors. Also, 6 months later I was in the local O'Reilly auto parts store and sure enough they carried a limited supply of riding lawnmower parts and the part I needed was there.

The problem I found when set like that and you want to clean the mower deck up with the clean out hose you can't get the deck all the way down to the ground to create a seal because it stops just a half inch below where you normally want to set these wheels. One of your earlier tips showed if you didn't have the mower all the way down it didn't clean very well at all.

Hi. Thanks for the info. My old Snapper rear engine ride on lawn mower, that has a single blade, and an 8 hp engine, with the bicycle type handlebars, the worst thing about it I found in TX with Bermuda grass, where I would like to cut it to an inch long is that length seems to simply be too risky to get scalping with a floating deck type mower. The worst thing was it was designed without the anti scalp wheels. I bought a couple and rigged them on the back side of the platform because that was really the only place I could put them. At first, Ii had them too low and I had problems. But now apparently they are too high and if I hit a divot in the yard it will scalp some. Or if I don't cut only in the slowest speed, in turns there is a risk of scalping. In fact for the last 6 years I just said the heck with it and switched to a self propelled 22" mower that eliminates any problems. It almost never has an issue unless I have the mower too low. I will eyeball the wheels again with your tip and see if I can't improve it as I have a need to use it again with some health issues. My dad's tractor type mower, had rollers that went clear across the back of the deck and were very close to the ground and that to me was the best design, other than the newer 360 mowers.

My wheels are pinned & easily adj. & they also pivot around 180° for rolling the deck out versus dragging it out! Lol... Ain't nothing worse than scalping, especially rocky outcroppings... The rocks always win! Off subject here Steve. What are your thoughts on the Husqvarna XP 372 chainsaw. I like most things about it, however as with all today's saws, carburetor adj. screws are now capped, at least until the warranty runs out. Then my tach gets put to good use for H & L & idle. I think all one can do is idle adj. currently. The saw is bit dated now, but it still cuts real strong as I understand it. It would be a nice addition to my Husky Rancher at close to 20 yrs. old & has a used lower end in it now... Bill Farr... :-)

Hi Steve, I am little confused. Your video shows the wheels are bolted to top most hole on the deck. By doing so the wheels will be in to most position and may never touch ground even if the deck is scraping the ground. Please enlighten me. Thanks.

It depends if you are cutting a golf course green or a bumpy lawn. How high you like to cut your grass. 3 inches or 4 will be a different hole than say 2 inch lean cut. What ever your hight than put the scalp wheels 1/2" higher than the ground as to let the deck float until you take a corner. Then one side of the scalp wheels will touch without tearing up your lawn.

Hi Steve...I have a Troy-Bilt Lawn Tractor 13WN77KS011 Pony (2013 year date made) and it has no brackets or scalp wheels. Can I add some front and back. I am getting a bagger and I thought it might help. I have an uneven yard and I get scalp stuff too.. Thanks for any input..

Good video Steve. When I change blades on my Husqvarna lgt2554, 3 blades, does it matter where each blade is in relation to the other? As long as the star pattern lines up and the blades are on the correct side down. Thank you
