Jeff glover does a clever variation on this guard retention whereby he comes up on to his knees and does a hip throw instead of hip escaping would you recommend this

You demonstrated the "no-gi version" but I'm confused because how could one do a Toreando in no-gi? Thanks for the material!

It was mentioned that you could gramby roll into guard with this technique, is that very similar to the video going over the leg shuck pass, or something different?

Hello, Stephan Kesting and Robin Biernacki! Please, I'd like to see a video or some videos showing how to escape from close guard(gi) using some principals! Thanks in advance! =]]

Is it possible to counter this as the attacker by jumping to the other side? If so, how to you address that? I ask because there's a sweep that involves similar mechanics by the defender - stiff arming the same side sleeve and rolling the attacker over. When I'm passing and see them grab my sleeve I'll jump to the other side of their legs to change the pass / misdirection. Thanks!

It depends on whether or not you are able to deny your opponent base and/or a frame/lever control when you switch sides, if your opponent still has good alignment when you switch sides, and you don't on account of your structure being broken due to lever based rotational control, then no, it won't work against fundamentally sound grapplers. We go into great detail on lever based rotational control in the app, our goal was to create a conceptual understanding so you can reverse engineer your own solutions based in the fundamental principles of BJJ. If that's too vague a response I believe Stephan and I will be doing a Q&A for those that purchase the app in the first week, as we did for the Back Attacks and will be doing for the Top Game as well. Thanks for the question. All the best, Rob

The translation of 'toureando' (sounds 'toreando' but you should write it with an U) is 'bullfighting' and not 'bullfighter'. It's a conjugation of the verb 'tourear' (translation: to fight bulls).
