Update: We have the information letter on this engine from Vern Kindschi. It's currently lost in the hoards. We think it's a model K, kerosene burner, but it's one of the few that was released as a hit and miss, rather than throttle-governed model K's. Once I get a hold of the letter with more info, I'll share it...

Thanks for finding us Richard. The kindest thing when I was getting started in the hobby was people to share advice. And actually I still have to ask quite a few questions now. So if I can I try to answer some too. Appreciate you watching!

A nicely detailed video. These old hit or miss engines are marvels for sure. A bit like me us the morning - hard to start sometimes but eventually do get going for the day. Thanks for posting.

I appreciate you watching. It was great to find your channel too and see some of the neat engines out east. And good comparison, haha.

If you ever get to Central Wisconsin, I'll show you how I bump start my 5 horse FJ. I enjoyed your story on your video.

Evidently you young guys can't stand to watch this old man struggle. 😁What's the furthest west engine show you hit?

My favorite engine show in the state is badger steaming gas, just south of Wisconsin dells... Sorry I don't get out to the western part of the state

Never been there. I remember when I was fixing up my FJ they said that Baraboo was the place to learn all about those engines. If I can manage to get out there I'll look for the BarnRod. Would be a pleasure to meet you.

@@OzziesOddities If you make it there, you can ride shotgun in the barn rod in the parade. Look me up on the book of face.

Now that would be a once-in-a-lifetime! 😁

Nice engine and great story on finding it. Try latching the exhaust open before cranking so you can get some momentum on the flywheels. I hold my right hand on the crank handle and with the left hand a finger keeping the latch engaged. Once I get the flywheels spinning I'll release the latch. That trick might make starting it easier.

You're right but when I reach the lever to hold the exhaust open, I can't put my whole body into turning the crank on the flywheel anymore. Next time I'll either make someone crank it for me or make someone hold the exhaust open. The main thing I'm missing is muscle. I don't know where it all went. Either that or the engine gained a lot of compression. You got a neat channel it looks like I look forward to watching more. I wouldn't want to arm wrestle you!
