Damn I miss the 90s. The Breeders, Veruca Salt, Nirvana, Sugar, Superchunk etc. Good effin' times...

Early 90s was my day. I used silvertones and ampeg cranked but only used a wah as far as in-line effects but used the trem and reverbs on the amps. It was a magical time. That Friedman pedal nailed those tones. Great job, Jason. Some great tones for sure. My fav 90s cocked wah song: Soundgarden’s Rusty Cage.

Lots of nostalgia!!!!! Great playing. And the 90's was essentially the revival for those effects pedals and now I think they are more popular than they initally were in the 60's 70's and 80's and it is all because of their use in the 90's. Keep up the good work on the vids!!!

because musicians would find them in second hand shops, or earlier bands would let them borrow their gear for studio sessions. even in the seattle scene they borrowed full on musicians like sharing drummers, it was all in the music, now instead of collaboration it feels like modern music (mainstream) is more on competition, true neo liberals wet dream

So many songs from my youth! A big nostalgia trip! Very formative years for me and still love Rage, Tool, Soundgarden and so many more. Whenever I think of 90’s wah I always think of Kirk Hammett - obviously started before that but things like the lead lines in Until It Sleeps stick in my head!

Dude you nailed all those tones! I knew the BE-OD sounded great but never thought it could do the Rectifier crunch with the guitar volume rolled down! Also, 311, nice!

Thx for posting. I'd also recommend checking out the Boss DS-1w that came out recently for a versatile 90's pure distortion. It helps get the high mids just right.

Totally agree with the wah...seems they get pigeonholed by many...I've always been a sucker for it and it's never grown old right across the spectrum of genres. Very much a J Mascis fan from back then till today. I guess Dinosaur never reached the dizzy heights of a Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins etc. But look who's still around (& making excellent albums) from that era and who's not (for one reason or another). Gotta say I've not known about that Friedman pedal, I still use a Hot Cake for most things until fuzz. It is now gonna be on my radar thanks to you. 😒 lol And on that note, Verlie is sending me a chorus ensemble tomorrow. And I blame you for that also. 😂 Really enjoying your presentation and down to earth style Justin, ever since I recently stumbled across your channel. 😎 The fact is most people realise that with post processing, crazy good playing and so on...just about anything will sound good. But that's just not realistic & I reckon many get lost in the fact& caught up in the hype. Great job man. 👍🎸

Amazing!! Hey do you think the Boss DS1 would do the same distortion type tones you got out of your pedal?
@JasonAyalaSpare2 жыл бұрын
I've found that the DS-1 works better through a dirty amp, I don't really like it through my clean Fender amp, it sounds too shrill for me. The reason I used the Friedman BE-OD is that it's super flexible.
