Canva UPDATE: you can now upload a .PSD file directly to canva instead of having to export artboard to PDF. Following the steps of the video you can just save your Photoshop file and then upload it directly to Canva.

That didn’t work for me either, it displays as an image instead as a frame 😢

I just wanted to say a really big THANK YOU! I have been watching many video tutorials, stumped as to how I can create a custom frame in Canva using the PDF method but I couldn't figure it out. I have been trying for about an hour to figure it out now and then finally came across your tutorial. It worked!! Thank you!!

These steps are not working for me for some reason. I'm trying to create frames with outlines and it's not working. Any trick to doing that?
@simplediyr2 жыл бұрын
after importing to canva and I delete the image to make the frame, the entire image deletes and its a big square frame
@LemonPaperLab2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried making it with an outline. I assume it just works with a basic shape and you might need to create the outline as it’s own png file to upload to canva. When you uploaded would it let you drag a different image into the frame vs just trying to delete the original image?

Do you know how to take an actual photo that includes a product, for instance a phone case.... example.. a woman holding an iPhone... is there a way to take just that iPhone and turn that into a canva frame, keeping all of the background in the photo ?
@LemonPaperLab9 ай бұрын
I know that I have interacted with some canva frames where just a part of it is the frame like you describe. I don’t know how they are made. My work around would be put everything else in the image on one layer and then make your phone case its own layer using the method from the video

I found this video very helpful, more than the others. But I have no idea why after I have done all the process, Canva look at my PDF as a whole image and even if I do ' delete image' it deletes everything, leaving me an empty square. So frustrating. Any advice? Thank you in advance
@LemonPaperLab2 жыл бұрын
you could also try - after opening your pdf in Canva right click on your custom frame and click detach image. You can then delete the image and add a new one to your frame.

@@LemonPaperLab thank you for your quick reply. I have already tried doing 'detach image' but then appear a square into a square. It's strange, even because I have the pro version of Canva. I will try to contact the support centre. Thank you for your help

Hello. Thanks for the PS tutorial. I'm trying to bring in a .png and use it the same way you show. The steps work until I bring it in to Canva; it isn't picking up the image but picking up the entire artboard. I unchecked bring in background and same issue. Any ideas?
@LemonPaperLab2 жыл бұрын
I think for it to work the object that you use needs to be a vector. In my video I used one of Photoshop's custom shapes which is a vector in Photoshop. I don't think it will work if the shape is a png. I tested the process with a png and it behaved the way you described. Potentially you can first convert your png shape into a custom shape in Photoshop and then go through the steps to make it a Canva frame. I have a tutorial video on how to make a custom shape in Photoshop - kzbin.info/www/bejne/a527lZ2mo7p0hpY (starting at 5:17 it shows you how to do that for a raster shape). Hope that helps.

can we do the same for fonts? I'm trying to find a tutorial on how to do that?
@LemonPaperLab2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it can work with a font. I couldn't get it to work when I uploaded the PSD file to canva because it treated it as a font, but I did get it to work if you create your document as an artboard (like in this video) and add an image with a clipping mask to your text and then export it as a pdf file. When you import the PDF into canva the text should act like a frame. Hope that helps.

heyy. love the tutorial. i have a question. do you know how to create a mockup using Photoshop and then the mockup can be used in Canva - just by dragging and dropping any pictures?
@LemonPaperLab2 жыл бұрын
You would have to set up your mock up to use canva’s frame feature. If it is a custom shape I probably would create the mock-up in two parts. Export one part as png that is the extra stuff like drop shadow or other elements and then the second part would be the custom frame shape following the steps in the video.

Is it possible to save a custom frame to a brand kit?
@LemonPaperLab Жыл бұрын
I think you would have to just create a folder for your brand and save you Canva document there. If you need to use the frame you would just copy and paste it to new document

Did you upload the PDF document under projects in Canva? You won't be able to upload it directly into a design like you normally do with a .png or jpg image.

I have found that custome shapes are themselves frames for Canva without the clipping mask. What do you think?
@captainterrific Жыл бұрын
Thank you for posting this video. Good instruction. I would say, however, that there is one important element that you didn't include (which so far as I found nobody ELSE on KZbin demonstrating custom frames seems to have covered EITHER…) Is how to create frames with borders. I don't understand why everyone leaves that part out of their custom frames instructional video.
