Thanks for this helpful video. I run a business in Melbourne, Australia, called Flatpack Kitchen Fitters, installing IKEA kitchens and laundries for customers. We did one recently where the customer wanted to use their own farmhouse sink which meant that we had to modify the sink cabinet to suit. We had to cut down the width and height. This resulted in the doors needing to be custom made to suit. I hadn’t really used Kreg stuff much before, but went out and got myself this handy little jig after watching your video. It worked great! Customer was very happy with the end result. I just wish Kreg had some storage solution for all the bits and pieces.

You're very welcome. I bought a small DeWalt tool pouch which can hold the Kreg jig, drill bit and two Kreg clamps. Like these. amzn.to/3QgzJ1a

I am actually using some 5" drawer fronts which I braced together end to end to cover up a 5" gap between my cabinets and the wall (5" wide x 80" tall). I figured why just cover the area when I could make it into a little hidden door on the side of the cabinet where we could store brooms and such. Your demonstration gave me the courage to do this, so thanks for that.
@kitchensbyrannes Жыл бұрын
That's a good idea, to stack the fronts. A 5" wide filler doesn't look good so making use of the space is much better. I'm happy you found it useful.

Great stuff. I have a situation where I would be left with 11 inches to fill if I didn't do something, so I came up with this idea, too. Nice to see someone actually do it, and see what the end result looks like.
@kitchensbyrannes3 ай бұрын
Thanks. With 11" to fill you could cut the cabinet to 10" and use a 10x30" drawer front ☺️

Thanks for the video, I'm doing another ikea kitchen (3rd one) but am wanting to make my own drawer/door fronts, but wasn't sure the Krebs jig would work.

I'm glad it was helpful. Keep the thickness of your fronts in mind when you use the jig. I made holes for hinges in a Havstorp front the other day and it is so thin that I couldn't push the 35 mm but to the end stop without poking all the way through. I measured the depth of the bit before drilling so I knew I had to pay attention.

Ha! I came home with 8 clearance priced drawers from Ikea today, exactly for this reason. I haven't decided though what hinges I should get because I don't have the bit to drill those special holes. Thanks for explaining I may be heading to the hardware store tomorrow.

Wow....that's lot. I went to Ikea myself Friday evening and they literally had hundreds of discontinued drawer fronts for $5 each. Could be used for s lot of things 😂 but I resisted the urge to buy any.

I did one more but this time 10 inch. After doing 2x 5 inches, I had too much space for a filler so I decided doing bigger. I wouldn't do it if the stands 12 inch works. I found it's more effective using regular clamps, put the drawer vertically, clamp the grey tool by the markings , no need to turn back to check, the n drill the holes. Also for the 2 small holes, I opt not using the nut but wrap electric tape at the right depth and make sure while drilling, I don't drill deeper than the tape marking. Happy that your guide of which cabinet to buy, I ended up for my need to use 24x14.5x30 due to custom angle cabinet.

I enjoy your channel. I'm planning my 2nd Ikea kitchen. One thing I'd like to see in a video is how you cut filler strips to avoid seeing the cut ends. Do you use smaller cover panels so you have 2 finished edges? If you use a 24" panel and cut 3" fillers most are going to have 2 unfinished side edges.
@kitchensbyrannes Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if I understand you correctly, but if you mean the filler between a cabinet and a wall, I push them back about 1/16" so I don't see any cut end. I know some people double up on fillers so an uncut end is protruding and facing the cabinet, but I don't do that.
@Michael_Courtney Жыл бұрын
@@kitchensbyrannes Okay. Thanks. Pushing back a little makes sense. However, at a corner where there are 2 fillers meeting, how do you handle that? I know the last kitchen I did the saw blade could make a not so perfect cut. Any tips on that? I'm sure a sharp and smaller tooth blade would help. If the cut edges don't matter, does it make sense to buy a big cover panel for fillers since it is relatively cheaper?

@kitchensbyrannes4 ай бұрын
Thanks 🙏 The one I use is indeed 35 mm but whether the point of the drill bit will poke through when the stop ring is sat to minimum, I cannot say. Hold it up to the door and check before drilling. Some of the thinner doors are a close call.

I have a spot where I need a 10" base cabinet. I will cut down the 12" cabinet and then use a 10" drawer front. Instead of making it a door, Rev-A-Shelf has a 9" cutting board slide out accessory that you can attach the door/drawer to the front.

Oh and you should add some Amazon affiliate links to your "more info" section with the tools and such that you use so that you can monetize your videos. I am totally going to go buy some of those drill bits that you mentioned that result in a flat bottom hole instead of using the pointy bits that could poke through your material. Looks like they are called "brad point bits". Thanks again.

Thank you for your question. No I don't have a video showing how to do that yet. Using a door as a drawer front for a pullout is a standard Ikea thing, for which they have a kit (805.105.83) to use. It even comes with a template for marking where the hardware for the drawers go. Easy to do 👍☺️

Hi Lars. For the Sektion door boring pattern, what is the precise distance, in mm, from the top/bottom of the door to the center of the 35mm boring? Also, can you pls confirm that 6mm (not 5mm) is the distance from the door edge. Can't seem to find this detailed info anywhere. thank you
@kitchensbyrannes2 ай бұрын
Hi... The distances/measurements in the video I've found on the Wide World web ☺️ so it's not something I've come up with. And the 6 mm, that's the setting on my Kreg tool, and it seems to fit. 5 mm would most likely work as well since the hinge can be adjusted to adapt, but having an extra millimetre of material right there, seems to be a good thing 😃 I say a lot without being of much help, huh? 😊🤣
