WARNING:: When entering your secret pass phrase, make sure you're fully awake, wearing your glasses, and have plenty of light. The letters are so small it's very easy to make a mistake. The letters i and l look almost identical unless you're using a magnifying glass. Same with a few other letters. Otherwise, the process is pretty simple. Great video, excellent information. However, anyone with enough experience with web-services and technology should be aware that the Ledger Live interface and either of these devices are just like any other services...Very likely going to be an absolute pain in the neck in 10-15 years. My Nano S sat for 6 months. I brought it out to move some coins and server error after server error, USB cable changing, USB drive changing, firmware update and several steps to verify the firmware verification codes...I finally got in. Can you honestly imagine what it would be like to store you Nano for 10-15 years and plug in in to the server THEN?? If they even use USB connections LOL and BlueTooth in the year 2036...I don't know. I have a Nano S and Nano X and after this experience they both feel like VHS players to me. Doomed to become unusable within several years. Change my mind! Update: Now that I updated my Firmware I have to re-install my apps! LOL, there's no way these are built for the future.

Any new crypto‘s that you add to the primary device will automatically be on the secondary device as soon as you install the app. In other words if you decide to add stellar on your primary device and create a wallet and account, if you lose your primary and pull out the back up, all you need to do is install the stellar app on the back up and it will automatically recognize the accounts. It’s also a good idea to periodically pull out the back up device and make sure it’s up-to-date with all the firmware. You could do that maybe once or twice a year.

Correct. The 24 word recovery phrase is compatible with both devices. But the ledger nano S has less storage space, so it may not be able to accommodate all of the apps you have on your ledger nano X. But, If you only have a few apps on your ledger nano X then you can save a little money by using a Ledger nano S as your back up.

Like maybe you ran out of space, then want to deal with a new currency, so you delete one of the old apps and add the new app (but can also delete the new one to add the old one back if necessary)? Thank you excellent explanation. Am I correct in thinking that creating a mirror image is like getting a spare set of keys cut for your house? Your coins are stored on the block chain and your keys are stored on your nano x. So by creating a "spare" set of the keys you can always get access to you coins on the block chain, correct?. This is why your accounts stay sync'd because they are on the block chain and either one of the mirrod'd nano x's can get you access to the block chain, is my analargy correct?.thanks

The main point of emphasis I have with negative externalities is the possibility of a ledger glitch with your device. The ideas of coffee spilling and others are possible but I think a data misconfiguration is more probable. My main question is: Say the ledger device encounters some system type glitch /error and you can’t use the physical device? Say the device doesn’t turn on or part of the screen is glitched... how can you recover your coins if that occurs? 24 word recovery phrase the solution? Buy a new device and input the 24 words from the broken/glitched ledger?

The last sentence in your comment above is correct! As long as you have your original seed phrase, you can repopulate the same wallet on a new Ledger device. Theoretically, you could repopulate the wallet on any BIP39 wallet platform, which includes more wallet manufacturers than Ledger. However, I've never actually tested this myself. That's what I've read about the BIP39 protocol, which is the cryptocurrency standard that the seed phrase system is based on.

I have done exactly what you have shown.. backed up a NanoX to a NanoS.. also verified the NanoS backup with a 'receive assets" test and successfully generated a new address. However, if I try and create a new account in LedgerLIve from the NanoS it always fails.. SO, I'm guessing that you cannot have the same account (same seed) created in LedgerLive? (just have the one account that will work on both devices)? ... this caused me to think that the backup had no worked as I couldn't load the account... but when I saw you do the "receive' test it worked. I have a Nano X and a Nano S... I formatted the Nano S first, then realised I should have formatted the Nano X first as the main storage device with the Nano S as the backup device... so.. I have two Nanos, an X and an S, both formatted as new devices. I have since moved some crypto from Binance to my ledger and Nano X.. now I want to backup the X with the S... I can see how to do so if the Nano S had never been formatted... but can I backup the X now, using the formatted S? If so, what do I need to do? when you have one ledger nano can you put two different passphrases on it so that you have access to two different accounts on leisure because I have two different accounts and I only have one nano S and I don't know how to put on another account onto there without clearing the account and then re-I am applying it after I do that I have an urgent matter with somebody has got my keys and they may find out how to get in and I have to protect that and so I wanted to also ask you about the security phrase does that prevent somebody else from breaking into the count there seems not to be a lot of information about this online without listening to tons and tons of other information so basically if you have a leisure nano and somebody else has got your Passphrase and you want to prevent them from draining the account but you don't really want to change the account because you like your account and you don't want to have to transfer things or lose money how do you prevent your account from being broken into by somebody who may have cracked into your passphrase do you change your passphrase can you or do you have to transfer the money this is a security issue like you're in a partnership and then you break up and then they have access to your passphrase and they can take your money out that's kind of the situation

The Ledger doesn't store any crypto! It only stores your private key, with which it signs your transactions. All your cryptos remain on their respective blockchains, always.

Depends on how many different cryptocurrencies you are managing. If it is only a few, then the Ledger Nano S is a sufficient backup. But the Ledger Nano X has more storage. If you are managing a lot of crypto currencies, then you should probably have an X for your backup also.

I made a copy of my first Nano S and duplicated it to my second backup and it worked fine. When I decided to try my second Nano S it would not take my pin. I made three attempts without any luck. I made another attempt and instead of selecting restore I mistaking selected new. As you know, the second Nano wanted a new pin and new recovery words. Is there any way to reset the second nano or salvage the device? I enjoy your videos. Paul
