How to create Amazon product variations using an Amazon flat file!

Hi Meghan. I need your help. My screens are different that your video. I am trying to create variations for existing Amazon listings. I'm able to download the flat file but not the 'category specific' file (where you chose the category, etc.) Should I use the flat file I was able to download?

It appears Amazon has recently made some updates. To find the category specific files, follow these steps: 1) Menu >> Inventory >> Add Products via Upload 2) Under "List products not currently in Amazon's catalog" (even if they ARE in Amazon's catalog) click "Get Product Template" 3) Choose your marketplace (you can add more marketplaces on the subsequent screen) 4) Continue at 0:50

Thanks for this video. Having previously listed a number of products without a flat file, I was having a nightmare with a new listing because there were required fields that were actually highly irrelevant to the product. The flat file template showed me that these fields were not actually required at all so I uploaded the listing, just the basic required fields, using the flat file. The listing was successfully created without the irrelevant fields, hallelujah!

Also, it would be fantastic if you could inform people about the Amazon emails that appear after you upload with the template that displays the errors. These Amazon emails are also very helpful in resolving issues within the template or filling in missing cells. Hey I really appreciate this video, it helps a lot. Is it true that if I list a brand, my pictures have to show my brand? I manufacture a product myself, but it's just a plastic part with no labeling on it or anything and no packaging either as it isn't necessary. I have a clipboard which is my parent. 4 Childs - 4 different colors. then I want to add 5 stickers for the customer to choose from to stick them to the clipboard. For item name (product name/title), I noticed you filled out parent and children. Let's say I wanted a color variation for three different colors of Catnip Toy. Would the parent be called Catnip Toy, and the children be Catnip Toy Red, Catnip Toy Blue, and Catnip Toy Orange? Or are are they all Catnip Toy and Amazon will automatically add the color to the title since you selected that as a variation?

Hi Meghan, Thank you for a really practical video which I followed step by step and successfully created listings with size variations and uploaded without any errors on files. However after 24 hours I have noticed that when I click on the listings individually to open it Amazon website or catalogue, the title of "parent is showing on child listing title" instead of their own individual titles. Meghan, is it really necessary to be filling in the bullet points if you have 2 existing stand alone listings? Can't we leave all of the bullet points blank? So far, your video is the best. I have had to go through various discovery points. First of all, you cannot create variation relationships if 1 of the 2 listings is inactive. Second, if you do have 2 free standing listings, you cannot use the 1x1 method directly in Seller Central. I mean these 2 points if not understood, you cannot get out of the gate. I was doing my best to avoid the xcel spreadsheet, but this became an impasse today. Thank you for your video.

Nope! You would put "Update" under the "Update Delete" section to create a parent. See 8:39 for further explanation
