If you have ever wondered how your favorite 80's artists got that guitar tone? Or if you're in a cover band and you have to play some classic Hair Rock/Metal and have to nail an exact sound, then look no further. Here is a comprehensive demonstration on how to get that classic "80's" sound used by countless artists in that decade. In this demonstration I play excerpts from several 80's songs.

You're missing the next step IMO, a lot of the 80's hair metal, heavy metal, glam rock sounds had modulation like chorus, phaser, flanger etc.e.g. Somewhere in Time era Maiden.

Yes! The ce-5 does a good job at this. It’s probably one of the best chorus pedals that can handle dirty distortion sounds. Include that in the mix and it sounds hella 80’s.

There were also a lot of chorus or flanger, but mostly chorus since it's more linear and usable for every application: clean, distorted Rhytm and distorted leads.
@JasonAyalaSpare
@JasonAyalaSpare 3 жыл бұрын
Yes there was, some guitarists believed that chorus helped to make their guitars sound double tracked live. I did a video on 80's clean tones in which I put heavy emphasis on chorus.

As a '80s hair metal enthusiast starting a hair metal band I needed this also I'm wondering can a tube screamer be good for hair metal if not what about a boss blues driver or super overdrive pedal from boss
@JasonAyalaSpare
@JasonAyalaSpare 2 жыл бұрын
The SD-1 was used as a booster, the key to that sound is the Marshall pedal. There are many pedals on the market that can do that type of tone. Personally I'd go with the MI Crunch Box.
@austinfailz
@austinfailz 2 жыл бұрын
You could try a Smiletone Governor's Blues, which is basically a Guv'nor and Bluesbreaker in one pedal. The Bluesbreaker sound react like adding an additional preamp tube, which was a common modification in the 80s to JMP andJCM800 amps.

I really wonder how you set up the delay. How many ms and how did you dial "feedback" and "time" knob of your Boss? Could an all analog delay do the job as well?
@JasonAyalaSpare
@JasonAyalaSpare 3 жыл бұрын
I actually proffer analog delay for this purpose because it's not an exact replication. When it comes to setting the delay time I went for quarter notes (crotchets) with about 3 or 4 repeats. Best way to do it is to trust your ears.
@ladjodjo4245
@ladjodjo4245 3 жыл бұрын
@@JasonAyalaSpare Thanks for your reply! Do you recommend any analog unit? I have no idea for which to go, because I never owned one so far and don't want to try one after the other. Some say most analog delays are "darkening" the sound (killing highs and high mids). By the way: Do I need a tap-tempo-function?

Eh, the Drivemaster is a bit differen than a Guv'nor, primary with the clipping, which is silicon diodes, rather than LEDs like the Guv'nor has. They clip differently than LEDs.

Nope, that's not true. The Drivemaster replaced the Guv'nor and it is basically exactly the same as the Guv'nor minus the FX Loop. It has LEDs as well. Marshall Shredmaster from the same series of pedals is the one with Silicon Diodes. There are lots of photos of the Drivemaster PCB online which show multiple LEDs.
