How To University Do you have any cover advice? I uploaded a picture and formatted the cover using google docs(which I really like it) but when I look the subject up it mentions resizing etc. Is resizing only necessary when using canva and other programs? Also, what’s a good source for free domain pictures and content. One would assume clip art and pictures acquired from google doc search are completely legal to use but I want to be sure and haven’t found a clear, cut answer on the web. Thank you so much! So far using your tips my first book looks good. I’m getting excited!!! 🥰🥰🥰
@HowToUniversity5 жыл бұрын
@@bellag.3282 As far as book covers go for kindle books, I suggest you go with canva using one of the templates called (Book Cover). For free useable images try (unsplash.com). I've used unsplash a few times, you just type in a word and different pictures pop up to use. Sometimes the pictures are exactly what you want and other times you will have to search elsewhere. @darlenesroom1989 Жыл бұрын
Good evening, Sir. Thanks for this GREAT video!!! Are you saying that you created your ebook in Google Docs and uploaded that document into Kindle, Amazon, etc.? You didn't upload it to an ebook creator to get the page size and margin formatting, front cover, back cover, etc etc etc? I'm curious, when people buy and download your ebook does it open up as 8 x 11, or does Kindle and Amazon resize it automatically? Thanks again, great job on your video!!
@HowToUniversity Жыл бұрын
Correct, I wrote my book using Google Docs (just like how I show in the video) and once I was done, I downloaded the finished book using Microsoft word doc (just like I show in the video). Uploaded it to amazon (following the directions on amazon to create kindle book on amazon) and everything came out great! As far as the ebook opening up as a 8 x 11, whatever the dimensions were set in the google doc is how it will show up or appear but I don't think that even matters. Also, as far as I know, amazon doesn't resize it, but like I stated in the video, everything looks great once your done in google docs.

This is a great tutorial, thank you. I am curious how this will work for a print version - I am writing a how-to book using google docs (actually I am still in the brainstorming/notetaking stage) and I know it will need to be formatted differently for print (I want print version AND kindle) - do I need to do two versions? Also, if I want a photo to be on both pages (left page and right page) how in the world do I do that?
@HowToUniversity3 жыл бұрын
Congrats on taking the steps to get your book out there. Amazons kdp gives you the option to do a kindle version and physical book version. Don't quote me on it but I think they ask for the same information for either version including your document to upload (although I could be wrong on that). I think they let you see what your physical book will look like so you could always test it out and see if you can still use the google doc version for a physical book and if not, check out this video for some help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHPXnZSFedRsqMk

Hi Damany...good video. How can I manipulate the table of contents just to show poetry titles so that when I click on the title it goes to the poem? Thanks.
@HowToUniversity2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm not quite sure what you mean but I'm thinking that you want to be able to click to a specific location (poetry title) so that you can work on it. If this is incorrect, please advise. The other thing I was thinking is that if someone were to read your poetry on the kindle or in a kindle app, you would like for them to be able to click on a specific title so it takes them right to that page. If this is what you mean, once you set up the chapters like I explained, people will be able to click on any chapter or title of the kindle book and it should take them right there. If this is all incorrect what you are asking, let me know. Thanks.

Hey! Thank you so much for the tutorial - do you by any chance know why my ebook format looks really merged together when I load it as a test with calibre? Everything is merged together and doesn't look like an ebook. Is that a poor software choice for ebook aesthetics? Either way, thanks so much. I'm just wondering what it would like like for Kindle, once I've finished the actual draft and edited it again. I appreciate you giving me organisational methods. For example; all of the pages come out all squashed together. PDF is completely fine, but that isn't any good for KDP apparently.

Do you have to write your own copyright page? Also, I have fifty continuous pages. Should I go back to add page breaks?
@HowToUniversity3 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't hurt to add it to your book but you don't have to do it. Is it a big thing that people are using other peoples copyrighted work? (I'm just saying). As far as the page breaks go, I think that if you don't add them, your kindle book might look like everything is running into each other.
@Kasanemangaidv3 жыл бұрын
Can page break be made for chapters and pages or is it just chapters? Is there also a video about how to format a book on KDP where you make a paperback book?
@HowToUniversity3 жыл бұрын
I believe the answer is yes. You can do the page break, write the chapter name at the top of the page and then you could start typing out the pages and then do a page break once you start another chapter. As for paperback books, I'll be doing a live video soon on KDP paperback books.

If creating the title page in Canva, is there a specific size required to use it with google docs?
@HowToUniversity3 жыл бұрын
Not completely sure what you mean but, what I did was after I created the title page on canva, I downloaded it and then in the google docs, you can put pictures on or in your google doc so I just added the title picture and just resized it to fit the page. Hope this helps.
@MarinJapan3 жыл бұрын
@@HowToUniversity Once I took it from Canva and into Googledocs, not sure how to resize it to its ideal size. Using the cursor doesn't work because the image expands toward the right and left only, leaving space at the top and left if that makes sense. But I can see there are some margin and size options. There is a lot you can do on Google Docs on your Android - so give it a try. I would suggest writing everything and then editing it on a library PC though. You can do a lot of writing and formatting on Android though - but, likely not as easy. I started on Android. I'm now having an issue with the actual output of the ebook file. I have the character, book cover, framework and idea - have started writing too - now I just need the organisational method directly printed into my brain. For some reason, despite the video being really helpful, when I load what I've written so far, on calibre, it is all wonky. I don't know how you fix that. Other ebooks turn like real pages.
