Most excellent teaching with great contrast and visibility. Doing duplicate stitch because my fair isle attempt was way too tight. Thank you Deborah, you are a gifted educator ❤

I really loved your clear instructions and the up-close visual. I think I will have to watch a few times. I learned how to knit when I was 9, but I am still learning!

I’m always learning new things and wanted to say thank you for the tip of turning the work upside down! I think it’ll make my work more evenly gauged too. :)

I'm glad that this tutorial helps you feel confident in making the Gingerbread Dreams socks. Duplicate stitch is a really fun skill to have in your toolbox to use all over the place in your knitting.

Thank you for this. I have nothing but trouble doing this. It’s very frustrating. I will continue to watch and try is as I watch. 😊

I second the the comment about showing the finishing of the duplicate, or Swiss Darning, stitch! I watched a ton of videos and almost all skipped that step with the exception of one great video that showed the backs tied off with ends in the same area. Although that works well, my piece is being made for a very picky person who wouldn’t like the ends hanging. 😏 This helped tremendously.

How did you get that chart? Do you know if there’s any website that we can print out our own designs? That would be great to have!😄

I'm sorry that I have not responded earlier. I made this chart myself. There are blank knitting grids you can find online to draw in your own designs.

I use a free app called knitting chart. You can save 2 charts at a time. If you don’t want to pay the one time fee of $20 to upgrade, you can just screen shot your designs and delete the charts in the app to be able to create more.

Awesome tutorial, I think I finally got it but one question, I’m knitting a hat and wanted to use this technique unfortunately I’m worried because as you know hats stretch. Should I make the duplicate stitches looser than normal so it can stretch with the hat. I’ve never tried this technique but I would love to make snowflakes on a hat and scarf set for Christmas. Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Again thanks love your project🤗

I would block the hat first then do the stitches, but because it is following the same knit stitches, it stretches with your knits.

Is there any way we can make a design ourselves?

You can use graph paper and fill in the squares to create your own design, but note that stitches are wider than they are taller and you would need to compensate for that.
