The light bulb just went off. I have been trying to understand this for a while but today it finally makes sense. Thank you 😊

I am SO glad I watched this tonight. I’ve done duplicate stitch before, but did not know about setting up the “u turn” nor reversing the direction of the stitching when working from left to right. And I have not always been happy with how my stitching turns out. I think this will be a game changer. Thanks so much!

Once again, thank you for your expertise and making information easy to understand. I’ve been a knitter for over 50 years but just can’t master embroidering an animal face in my knitting! My efforts look like something from a Frankenstein film! I’ve watched lots of videos to no avail, please help if you can.

Excellent video. I have watched videos on this many times by different people. Until yours l could not follow or understand what was being done. Your contrast yarn already knitted in the fiber showed me where the yarn was at and where to go. Thanks so much. I knitted three of my grandsons Christmas stockings without names cause l couldn't figure out how to do it. Thanks again. My daughter thanks you.

I JUST finished my FIRST color work project ever. This video came out just in time because some of my colors jogged down. I swear you post videos I need merely hours after I run into certain knitting problems 😂

Thank you, Roxanne, for your U-turn trick. The detour is certainly worth the extra time needed for the execution of this stitch.😊

A few years ago, I did political hats for my sister-in-law. There were so many, rather than do stranded colorwork, I knocked out about 20 hats, and then used duplicate stitch to decorate them. It was such a useful tool.

…and, of course, I learn something about duplicate stitch I didn’t know I didn’t know! ☺️

Really glad you did this video! I thought I knew how to do duplicate stitch, but I never paid any attention to the possibility of twisted stitches. Light bulb moment! My goal for Finish It February is to finish two pillows that have a lot of duplicate stitch, so your timing is perfect for me. Thanks!

Roxanne, as usual I admire ýour ability to clarify techniques that can seem a bit obscure to the uninitiated. Wish I'd had excellent videos like this when I was stumbling through, learning by error. Your video about using duplicate stitch saved my bacon when a misscrossed cable turned up in project that was too complex and too far beyond error to ladder down and repair. Have you done a video about using duplicate stitch to renovate worn places in knitting when stitches are obviously on their way to a hole, but mercifully not quite there yet?

Thank you once again, Roxanne. I am making Arne & Carlos’s mini Nordic jumpers Advent calendar for my grandsons. That’s 24 little turtleneck sweaters, a different colorwork pattern for each, a wonderful way to learn contrasting color rules. I’ve also improved my tension in colorwork. However, I thought I had enough contrast yarn for #7: nope. So, I’ve knitted the body in the main color (sleeves were done first) & will duplicate stitch the number & design on the body because I remembered this video! You are a lifesaver.

I'm right-handed and insert the needle from right to left. I turn the work upside down to work the left-to-right rows from right to left.

I tell people that are learning to knit to make a swatch, deliberately dropping stitches so they can practice picking them up, even rows back or when trying a new pattern make a couple of repeats, mess them up on purpose and practice fixing them, so they won't start a nice piece, mess up and not know how a to fix it.

Roxanne, this is the best duplicate stitch explain yet, especially the “u-turn” which I have not seen elsewhere. I had to duplicate stitch a name for the first time recently and struggled but faked it by cutting and restarting my yarn to change directions. One example I would love is how to form something like letter “F” where long vertical is cut by two horizontals. As always I learned something new . Thanks.

I’d love to know can you do duplicate stitch on garter stitch. I’ve made an intarsia mistake and would like to try and fix it with duplicate stitch rather than rip it out. Can you help? 😢

Thank you Roxanne for another brilliant video. If you haven’t already done so would you consider making a tutorial for intarsia at some future date? ( I didn’t spot intarsia in your technique playlists but it be be covered within one of your colour work videos - I will start rewatching a video). Thank you again for all the time and effort you give so generously - I learn constantly from you

How do you do duplicate stitch for garter stitch?
@RoxanneRichardson Жыл бұрын
You can trace the path of a row of sts with a strand of yarn, regardless of stitch pattern, but the way garter stitch is structured, if you followed the path with a contrast color, you'd have the legs -- the V shape -- of RS knits in that color, plus you'd have the running threads of that same row (which will look like purl bumps) showing on the RS.
