I just saw the bit about ctl+T and node wrangler - instant subscribe! I was looking for something like that but didn't knew its there! Thanks mate!

Funnily, I've always tried to not use node wrangler in tutorials as I felt moving away from 'stock' usage wasn't a good idea for people new to Blender, but I had to use it for for this one, would have been a 3 hour tutorial otherwise :D
@HrafnNordhri8 жыл бұрын
you can also select a shader and press shift+S to change it. Node Wrangler is a blessing.

I've come back to Blender after a Year away, and you;re showing me a whole world of stuff i didnt even know was there before!! Hoepfully i'll actually be able to make some decent stuff now :P

Excellent solutions for which we cannot afford the use of textures in high resolution. Fantastic video,as always. Thank you very much for your lessons. Sorry for the mistakes.

Happy you enjoyed it MAK9. Thanks for watching as always.

This is an excellent tutorial! Thanks. It is nice to see the material ball I made being put to good use. I haven't been using it. Subscribed

Yeah, thanks for sharing it. I tried out a couple but yours definitely had the nicest combination of surfaces and curves. Glad you liked the tutorial.

Thanks for this, I just recently modelled a car and I had no idea how to add the materials/textures in, this is definitely usefull.
@BlenderBrit8 жыл бұрын
Glad you found it useful. If you're looking for a good car paint tutorial there is one one CGCookie, might even be in the free archives by now, covers adding materials to a whole car, would strongly recommend it.

Very nice and helpful tutorial. Is there a special reason why you don`t put in the bump into the diffusenode? Would it be not a little bit more realistic, when the wood would have some profile?

At around 4:25 in you vid you mentioned a name I couldn't quite pick up on. Cinecap pro? or something like that where you picked up that little tidbit? I could not find their youtube channel. Could you spell out their name for me? Thanks? Love your tutorials.

I can't get my render preview to change or look any thing like yours does. It looks dull once I start putting mapping etc etc in to the nodes. When it was just the 2 glossy shaders it was fine.

Hi there. Really great tutorial, it taught me a lot, the gunmetal part was exactly what I needed! I was wondering though, would you ever consider putting the scene you have setup for download?
@BlenderBrit8 жыл бұрын
There isn't a lot of point in sharing the scene as all the associated textures are proprietary however, if you're interested in the gun metal material you should check out my Free PBR Node tutorial, I used the same material again for demonstration but with a much simple method. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.
@WindBendsSteel8 жыл бұрын
actually you should subtract the Fresnel factor by the Roughness and all shaders should have the same roughness value, to make that dull plastic. For a physical based render that is.
@BlenderBrit8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, when I made that tutorial I was still learning PBR. Hell, I still am :D Thanks for the feedback though and for watching.
@seba_mestre_ips8 жыл бұрын
you're not supposed to substract the incoming fresnel color (or F0) from the fresnel, the dark gray value that blender gives you is actually the correct reflectance
@BlenderBrit8 жыл бұрын
'Correct' is somewhat of an absolute imo. In terms of physical accuracy you are of course totally correct but I personally like to have more control. What I have actually done in my latest PBR shader is to include a slider so you can adjust between a correct 0deg reflection and the F0 approach. Artistic control is never a bad thing.
@seba_mestre_ips8 жыл бұрын
+BlenderBrit yeah i just meant in terms of physical accuracy. of course, artist control is always important

Nice tutorial, thanks. I just have a question though: in an interior scene we usually have tens of objects and materials, and it all get quite slow at the time of the final render. I have always thought that the shader nodes are slower as, say, RGB mix nodes (for every point the shader node evaluates the direction and the type of ray and so on). So when I need the effect of two glossy shaders I generally use a colour mix to drive the different roughness or colour of just one glossy shader, thus lowering the shader count to one third (glossy as opposed to glossy+glossy+mix). How is your experience on the subject? (I use a five-year-old laptop, so maybe the problem is not so noticeable with a modern machine with GPU and the like)
@BlenderBrit8 жыл бұрын
Thats probably a very valid point. I use an Nvidia 960GTX with 4GB memory for test renders and also have a RenderStreet One subscription for farm rendering so I must admit speed isn't usually one of my main considerations. That said, I just released a shader pack which efficiently uses one glossy for multiple inputs, you might want to take a look at that and see if it runs ok with your hardware. www.blenderbrit.co.uk/free-tool-pbr-node-pack/ Thanks for watching.
@piergi818 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I'm going to try that. In the meantime, I did myself a test, and the variation with the colour mix node is indeed faster, but the result is also slightly different. I cannot point down where exactly the problem lies (maybe it related to colour management, I am now trying with gamma nodes).
@BlenderBrit8 жыл бұрын
I'd be interested to hear the results of your tests. Perhaps with an image comparison etc.
@piergi818 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill, sorry for the late reply. I have posted my results, including screenshots, here: blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?400938-Mix-two-roughness-values-using-RGB-mix-colour-nodes-%97-What-is-going-on-there I have no idea why, but the colour mix produces a blurrier result, albeit faster.
@BlenderBrit8 жыл бұрын
I'm a little swapped for a couple of days but once I get the chance I'm going to sit down and replicate this to see if I can see whats happening. I see the blender artists thread has a reply relating to using values rather than rgb inputs, but I don't think that's the entire issue. Will reply when I have something of note :D

Hi in the middle of your tutorial you use a geometry node to isolate the edges. When I tried to add this node I don't have a pointiness option. The last option is only the back facing one. I have the latest version of blender. Any ideas?
@BlenderBrit8 жыл бұрын
That is odd. I've googled the issue and didn't find anything useful. If you're definitely using the latest Blender release then I would suggest an uninstall/reinstall to see if that helps. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
@ericclark97708 жыл бұрын
Any chance you could upload that material scene on your site?
@BlenderBrit8 жыл бұрын
I'm afraid not, all of the textures are from paid sites etc. If it would be helpful though I could upload snapshots of all the node groups used?
@ericclark97708 жыл бұрын
+BlenderBrit I'm sorry, I think you misunderstood my question. I understand the materials themselves use paid textures. I was more curious about the material model (the spherical object).

Oh sorry for the confusion, I grabbed the ball off BlendSwap. Just altered it a little with my logo etc.

Please upload the pictures of nodegroups please :-) All of your materials looked awesome, but I haven't got the patience to follow step by step, so pictures would help me a lot.
