FREE Report - How Actors Get Shredded
www.criticalbench.com/shredded
If you're trying to create the perfect personal training session for your client, you should watch this video now. Strength Coach Brian Klepacki, MS, CSCS, FMS, CISSN has been working with clients young and old and at all skill levels for over 15 years. Although some would refer to him as a "personal trainer" he calls himself a strength coach. This is partly due to his extensive background in the field.
He has a Master's degree in Exercise Science, is certified with the NSCA (National Strength & Conditioning Association), is a certified in Sports Nutrition and is certified to do the Functional Movement Screen.
If you're new to personal training and working with clients one on one or in small groups to help them get stronger, leaner, healthier and more fit, take 10 minutes to listen to someone who has been there and done that for a very long time with young and old athletes!
Training clients isn't an easy thing to do if you want to do it right. There are many things to consider, goals to make and plans to get them where they want to be...
Please leave any comments or questions you have about personal training / personal coaching below so that Brian can get back to you. We are happy to help you grow into your new career to help change and sculpt the lives of many people.

Good video, thanks! Now I saw this video 5 year after it was posted. But a quick tip. Don't ever link to unsecure pages (looks kinda fishy). It does not help with credibility. Make sure to make you homepage https right away :) And also, why write "TODAY ONLY" if it's not today only? Sorry for sounding grumpy. Keep up with the good content!

I can not stress strongly enough DYNAMIC STRETCHING!!! There are so many lazy ass PT's who either don't implement it enough or is flat out absent from their client's sessions - I personally know of a few, but to each their own. Funny you bring up the research on static stretching. About 7 months ago they covered that in a seminar I attended and I followed it up w/ additional research showing it does in fact seem to be the trend - Less static stretching. As a personal trainer myself, I really like to implement rolling as it breaks the muscle density and prepares you for the workout and the beauty is that it also works for post training as well. Great vid though - This is something ALL newbies should be taking notes on because it's evident they're just simply not covering enough in some of these mediocre certs they're offering to people. Personally, I believe they want your money more than they want you to be qualified in fitness coaching...

I am not a personal trainer but I love your honesty. May I suggest something for you. Start your own business offering it for the lowest cost to your clients. People will pay for your time & & you will get more & more clients by word of mouth. Most people cannot pay the price that your competition is asking. As your business grows you can gain experience that will be invaluable. Just a thought for you. Good luck!

I really appreciate your emphasis on functional assessments when you start with a new client and then every 6-8 weeks to check in. I have a similar education background so maybe it’s my understanding of postural dysfunction and muscular imbalance, and what that really means when you’re coaching someone. It’s not like I can just have someone to do a walking lunge and assume that because they were able to do it that it means they performed it optimally with zero compensation. Not to mention ignoring those things increases your clients risk of injury which is irresponsible on the trainers part and also means that client won’t be buying anymore sessions until they heal if at all.

The best personal training session is the best for that particular client. There are many exercises depicted here that many people are not able to do. This is why I agree with doing an in depth assessment and then from there then you can come up with a "perfect"training session. If you are a new pt don't think that degrees etc are going to make you a better trainer, experience does that. So get experience in the gym and train lot of different people..

Find these a little intimidating, in the course for level 2 and 3 its basic questions, optional answers, so piss easy to pass... but obviously we want to provide a great service to our clients, and it just seems like that doesnt come with the qualification, i guess it's our own responsibility to develop that when we start working, but just prefer always being ahead rather than winging stuff and learning as i go personally.

Thank you so much! Im new to personal training. I think my biggest fear is coming up w/ quick effective workouts on the spot. Of course depending on the assessment is there some type of formula u have to know what to quickly have that person do. I hope this question makes sense! Thank u!
@Criticalbench
@Criticalbench 4 жыл бұрын
Tricky to answer because there are a couple ways to go about this. One is that you have a basic bodyweight program that you can modify depending on your clients strengths and weaknesses. Once you have been at this a little while coming up with workouts and exercises on the spot does get easier.

Well that depends on the client. You want to be thorough & not overlook anything. However someone who has had PT training before and is in relatively good health with no concerns, injury or issues may take less time to do an assessment on. Be professional always

Hi Criticalbench. So, are SMR and static stretching not beneficial for a new client? This is NASM's guideline.
@Criticalbench
@Criticalbench 4 жыл бұрын
Hello! Static stretching has its place but is not the best form of stretching, especially for people who need movement in their lives. Here we are huge proponents of dynamic stretching, stretches that involve movement and help to improve both mobility and flexibility while heating up core temperature and ultimately are safer. Static stretching when used during and at the end of exercise has its place... but not in the beginning. Check out our new program that speaks directly to this topic... www.criticalbench.com/growth/metstretch

Hey critical bench, my first experience lifting weight was just bench press, no warm-up or anything, I'm trying to figure out how I would appreciate a warm-up. But for someone who is just starting their movement and doesn't have my skinny genetics, how do you think I could approach this?

@TheBalint11

The question is always for me is that how can I build the session if the client wants to loose weight. I like intervall training, can I combine lifting weights with plank or isometric or dynamic excersises? For example : Squat with jump for 30 sec - biceps curl 12-14 reps - 3 circles not much rest. And other pair of excersises. Or should I repeat one excersise at the sam time? I like supersets. My client is beginner though.
@Criticalbench

Any of these can work, just be sure to start them with what they are able to do while still executing the exercises properly and hitting their goals.

It is fine to stop coaching/ training a client if you find the relationship is strained HOWEVER, I strongly recommend, & this is what I've done in a similar situation, is to have a very sincere adult conversation with the client explaining that you feel you they may have better success with another coach and then provide them with at least 3-4 names of other coaches whom you recommend. This way the client feels like you have their best interest at heart and less like you are "firing" them.

Hello mate. I’ve been a freelance personal trainer for a few years now. I’m certified but it’s been a while since I sat the exam so the minutiae of certain data points aren’t fresh in my mind. I applied for a job at a corporate gym just before the COVID19 lockdown and got the job, but they said I still have to sit a short written exam, before I can begin work after the lockdown ends. I live in Asia so it’s not going to be all the legal stuff ACE focus on. It’s not very litigious out here and safety is also unlikely to be the focus of any exam. Do you have any experience of written examination for employment, and if so, do you have any advice or guidance on what to expect? I’m expecting the focus to be basic anatomy, nutrition and sets, reps and rest for different goals. I don’t anticipate much in the way of ACE programming protocols or in depth cardio programming etc. At least I hope not! I hope you can help 🤗 Cheers 💪

@Criticalbench

When it comes to weight loss it is not simply about specific exercises. It is about consistency in exercising and having an excellent nutrition plan to follow. Both of these combined will allow for greater success. One thing to keep in mind however is this ... if your client is enjoying their program they are more likely to stick with it and keep it up and that is what is going to help them to continue to lose weight.

Optimax Performance Training Thank you. My first question is related to the burnout or fatigue at the end of the session. What is the science behind this? My concern is preventing overtraining, especially with young athletes whose nutrition might not support extreme training and in whom physical exhaustion may lead to mental burnout.

Useful video, but you might want to consider removing the background music. Just saying.

This video was very helpful. I’m a rookie personal trainer just got certified about 6 months ago!! I do have a question. Say I am training at a local gym or wellness center. Will that specific gym have a outline of what they want us to do as far as assesmebtsbor will we (the trainer”” need to have one already made up.!

That depends. Some franchise gyms have an outlined protocol/ procedure that they want you to adhere to. My personal experience is that privately owned gyms will allow you to train your clients as you see fit.
