I am SO GLAD you haven't give up on the idea of Dragon Quest Builders modding, you're our only hope. I so desperately want someone to crack the coding and really get us in deep so we can do DQB2 justice. If SE was smart they'd release DQB3 with mod support so it could rival Minecraft. I seriously only play Minecraft because a DQB3 doesn't exist and DQB1/2 don't have modding. If modding the code for DQB2 were possible I would go HAM on it.

Btw there is a secrete block of malachite on furrow field inside the fountain on the hill in your village made of umber. also slimes actually won’t attack you if you don’t attack them! (Not that you would use that because you have the Uber falcon blade.) In the north of furrow field there is the 3rd mini-boss witch is an orc king! 10:17, I have to question your sanity if your replacing good textures with crappy textures, those textures and the ugly "actors" are the very reason I won't ever play minecraft **Edit:** I'm still working on my own attempt at re-creating the DQB engine, did several core re-writes after finding things weren't working they way they should or as flexibly as I'd like so haven't gotten to the physics yet, let alone full blown maps, good to know what texture format I'll need to support though, likewise good to know there's likely now documentation on some of the data files used by DQB2 **Edit 2 (1 year later):** I finally resolved a show stopping catch 22 situation with the base library I was working on before getting to work on the engine itself. The basic problem was that to provide a universal ABI (Application Binary Interface) I needed to have a library that handled it's own allocations from the ground up. This meant opening temporary files for mapping into memory as pages for a runtime allocator to then go nuts with to allocate smaller chunks of those pages for general objects and buffers. The key problem was that to provide a universal interface for opening files I needed a memory allocator separate from the standard one so that the internals of the library are difficult to touch by accident (buffer overruns for instance), yet to get those memory allocations I needed to open the files 1st. It took me ages to realise it (as the "1 year later" indicates) but I just needed a linked list with unions in it. Unions are basically objects that hold several kinds of members but they all occupy the same bytes (so only 1 can be in use at any time). I put the file handles in those along with the objects I would used to manage pages themselves. I don't imagine anyone wants to know more details but if they want to keep an eye on the related projects then for the library look up awsdert/paw on gitlab, and for the engine awsdert/dragonbuilder. Progress WILL be slow because I'm lazy but it will continue on even if occasionally there's weeks at a time without an update (unless of course I die which you can assume is the case if it goes un-updated for at least a year)

Hey Ben, Would it possible or better to keep all of the original files and just make a duplicate for new blocks instead? That way you're just adding files instead of replacing them? I would think the game would not give any errors that way. If it does.. idk I've not attempt it yet. and Also Would you recommend modding only after finishing the game? or could you do it before starting a New Game (No previous game)?

I'm no expert, but I do think it's smart to fill your Item book first. 🙂 Surely there would be a way to add new items and the game would see them as DLC.🤔 What would be really nice is being able to add a new build table that is linked to your own added items.

Awesome work, Ben! Quick question do these tools work with the Switch version of the game? Also, can I use them to handle textures from DQB1? I'm intending to translate both games for Switch and I need a way to manipulate the phyre wrapper for dds textures of the game.

Don't thank me, thank TurtleInsect :D DQB2 uses a different engine. The KoeiTecmo one which also Arslan used. But as long as you have full access to the switch files you should be able to do the same as with the PC version. As far as I know they are the same from their file directory. Though some files might have different IDs inside the bin/idx container. You'll have to look for ones with comparable file sizes.

@@BenXC Yeah, just tried your tutorial and it worked like a charm on Switch's DQB2! It seems DQB1 was developed on Phyre Engine, and it uses a whole different scheme of texture container and stuff. But it's nice to see that DQB2 is going to be easy enough to translate thanks to TurtleInsect and you, with this awesome tutorial video! 😁 Keep up the good work! 😉

Doing the exact opposite of what I want done and I need support to be able to do it. I have an unfinished minecraft texture pack with dqb2 blocks and a few other items. Now that the entire texture pack is out, we can do more with it but know that minecraft is also making updates to the game and developers at mojang are adding new blocks and items. There is a special minecraft world whose purpose is to show you all the blocks and items in the game. You can also use commands to summon anything people or monsters to see what they would look like.

Hi Dramalkar, Unfortunately, the studios that made DQ-B 1 and 2 were bought from Square Enix. But the great people behind Dragon Quest are not, so BUILDERS is still safe, but it takes a new team to make the game led by the writer and art director. The game is loved in Japan so now it's up to the writer who is now working on DQ 12.

Did you use the demo version with a downloaded save file? From which to which island were you trying to go?

@@BenXC one of the islands you unlock with hearts, coral something. And no I'm on the official version on my Xbox. The game was frozen on a black screen saying "saving" in the bottom right corner. It finally crashed and when I loaded back up I had no save data.

@@kalebtlt1630 oh okay, try to copy the corrupted save file in the load save file home screen to another slot and load this one instead. I've heard this fixes it for some people.
