I taught myself to crochet 55 years ago, but I always hated my projects. KZbin did not exist so I learned from a free pamphlet that came with the yarn. Printed booklets were expensive so the details were too brief. I have NEVER had such a clear demonstration of why the chain two doesn't count until today. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I subscribed to your channel and I'm looking forward to watch all your videos. Who says you can't teach an old dog a new trick?

At 16:05, for anyone who is confused on what she means by “rounds 8 through 17”, that means for the next 10 rows you will do only one double crochet into each stitch.

I made this 3 times and it would be to big. I am a beginner and I finally found out what I was doing wrong. Instead of crocheting in the middle of the double crochet stitch I was crocheting in each space and the double crochet stitch. Since I am doing it right it turned out beautiful. Thank you

This video is one of the best I have seen. You speak clearly and go at a pace anyone can follow. Only thing I wish you had repeated the row count from where the increases stopped and you just made a DC in each stitch. I wasn’t quiet clear on whether the rows were from the beginning or at the point the increase stopped. It’s probably just me but I thought I would mention it. But you are a very good teacher and I hope you do a lot more videos. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Merry Christmas to you and your family for 2022.

I always thought the beginning rounds should lie flat, and that the circle should not begin to "dome up" significantly until the crown is completed. Also that if it domes earlier, it means your hook is too small. Am I missing something?

so I’ve made 3 different hats with this pattern, how come every time i get to the row with 3 half double crochets then one increase, back to 3 HDC, I end up with 48 instead of 50? I never end on an increase? Then I have to add the increase in another stitch. I don’t have any issue on any other row.

Yes. I tried this 5x. Finally, I got it to be the right size with a smaller hook, then switched to a bigger hook when it was becoming too small. I also did not continue with all of the ending rows because it was becoming too large. Next time I will prob do 8 or 9 rows so I can fit all of the ending pretty rows (I obviously don’t know what they’re all called lol. The reverse back stitch thingy lol)

I like how you used a much lighter yarn color for this hat because it’s so much easier to see your stitches. The only thing is maybe use a worsted weight yarn instead of cotton yarn because cotton yarn doesn’t have much elasticity to it and if you’re planning on wearing it for winter, it won’t keep you warm in the cold weather.

Why does it look like it has small gaps when you are crocheting it? Are these small gap’s visible when you wear the beanie? Also is it ok if I only crochet the horizontal rows ?
