Looking for a FREE shawl pattern that is QUICK and EASY? You've found it! This is the perfect crochet shawl tutorial for someone who has never made a shawl before. The pattern is super simple. Once you have crocheted a few rows you will get in the rhythm of the pattern and will not need to rely on counting stitches anymore. You will be able to eyeball the work. That makes this pattern relaxing and a fantastic project to work on while watching a movie or show but it also works fantastic if you are trying to make something fast. This shawl pattern is truly beautiful, especially if you use a colorful yarn. You would never know it was so easy to make.
Materials:
4 Weight, non-textured yarn: In my tutorial I use Red Heart Roll With It Melange in SHOW TIME
amzn.to/3dvXrQt
4 Weight, non-textured yarn for Tassels/Fringe: I used Simply Soft Harvest Maize
amzn.to/2Lb3PAz
Hook Size I or 5.50mm
Scissors amzn.to/35R3e0j
Fabric Glue ***That dries Clear and Flexibly!!! www.aleenes.co...
Measuring Tape or Ruler amzn.to/2LaAOoC
**As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Thank you!**
Pattern: (The Shawl that I created measures out to be 80 inches wide on the top most part of the shawl, and 47 inches long from the center of the top of the shawl to the bottom most point.)

Row 2: Turn, Chain 2 (counts as first double crochet), Double Crochet in the Back Loop Only of the first space. Double Crochet in the Back Loop Only of the next 4 spaces. In the chain 2 section you will (Double crochet, Treble crochet, Chain 2, Treble crochet, Double crochet) all in that large space. Then Double Crochet in the Back Loops Only of the next 4 spaces. 2 Double Crochet in the last space.............................................................................................................................................18 sts
Row 3: Turn, Chain 2 (counts as first double crochet), Double Crochet in the Back Loop Only of the first space. Double Crochet in the Back Loop Only of the next 7 spaces till you reach the chain 2 space. Row 5- However Long You Want Your Shawl: You will notice that pattern just repeats. The chain 2 in the beginning always counts as the 1st Dc. One double crochet in the back loop only in the first space. Double crochet in the Back Loop Only on top of every stitch of the row before. In every chain 2 space you will [DC, TR, Chain 2, TR, DC)]. Then back up the row will always be a DC in the BLO of each stitch ending with 2 DC BLO in the last space. Turn.

Fringe/Tassels:
With Desired Tassel Color cut a 12 inch long strand. Make a pile of 20 strands. This is enough to make One Tassel. You want 3 Tassels, one for each corner of your shawl.

Finally an easy shawl that doesn’t have so many holes or spaces. I’ve looked for a few “easy” ones and they weren’t. You’re directions are clear and such a great teacher.

I have made 4 of these now, and here are things that helped me: use stitch markers in the first stitch of every row. This means 2 stitch markers in at all times. Chain 2 at the beginning but ignore the chains and 2dc into the beginning stitch. Mark the first DC and crochet into that, not the chain (this is infinitely easier). DC under both loops on the first and last stitch of every row for a nicer top of the piece. Great, easy pattern!

I made this shawl and love it, and am making my second one now, but I have modified it slightly to make it fit and wear a little better. For the first 10 rows, at the start and end of each row, instead of doing an increase of only one stitch in the first and last stitch of each row, do an increase in the first AND SECOND stitches and the last AND NEXT TO THE LAST of each row for the first 10 rows. This makes the center of the shawl very gently curve, when wearing the shawl, this is the part that goes around the neck. By doing this slight curving around the neck, it forms the shawl so that it lays nicer around the neck and the shawl will wrap beautifully over the shoulders and stay in place better and more naturally. It’s a simple modification, but works beautifully. I am making several shawls for Christmas gifts out of Red Heart Heat Saver yarn, which I think is going to make some warm shawls, but this yarn has a lot of body, so I think forming the neckline is going to be even more important with this yarn so the wearer is not constantly having to fight the shawl to keep it in place.

Hi Vickie: I just finished my 12th row & I can see that I have a slight upper curve, behind the neck, which looks odd. If I tear it out & try your method, I’m wonder if it would work on a lighter yarn. I’m using a Mandala #3. J.
@jillwhite4319

Tried your method & it made such a difference behind the neck. I also decided to change the centre, from 1dc, 1tr, 2sc, 1tr, 1dc; To: 2dc, 3sc, 2dc. It just made a slightly larger eyelet. But I do love the pattern! J. W.

@@bethhigdon8304 let me try to help. You know how Tiffany puts 2 double crochets in the very last stitch? Instead, put 2 double crochets in the last 2 stitches, chain 2, turn, put 2 double crochets in the first 2 stitches (back loop only) then proceed with one double crochet in each stitch. Basically to “increase” you put 2 stitches instead of 1 in a space. This should curve the neck upward. I just wanted mine straight across and in order for this to happen, I had to modify by putting 2 double crochets in the last 2 stitches (end of each row) chained 2, turned work, and then proceeded with just 1 double crochet in back loop of each stitch. For some reason, when I followed Tiffany’s pattern, my shawl curved down. There are tutorials out there on how to increase, if you’d like to actually see it. Hopefully this made sense and wasn’t too confusing. Good luck!!

If any one is having trouble finding the true last stitch in each row, just put a stitch marker in the first stitch in each row you start, and in the very last stitch in the row. Move the markers up into the new first and last stitches as you go. Now you will know exactly where your last stitches are in each row. Less stress and easier counting.

BIG TIP: After you ch 2 and turn, right after you take your first dc, put a stich marker in the chain you just made (the "V" preceding the loop on your hook). You will never again worry about which is the last chain in a row. I cannot emphasize enough how big of a difference stitch markers have made in my projects. I never crochet without using stitch markers. I use the locking, flexible markers that don't snap and break.

Please, I must tell you, you should never glue knots or any part of a knit or crocheted project. Always weave in ends so they don't come out with wear or washing. You don't want to go through making a beautiful garment and have it come apart. 😊

I think people should do whatever they're most comfortable with.
@nevesdarocha
@nevesdarocha 10 күн бұрын
@@katielyb there's a reason for not using glue. It's not to hurt someone's feelings, it's so they can put their garment in the washer and dryer without fear of it falling apart. If this garment is made to never be washed or worn, that's different but if you actually want to use the garment you don't need to glue it.

Why the dbl trb trb dbl in the center? I know it’s the center to keep the sides nice but the combo seems strange to me but what do I know?!

I just finished making this shawl. I love it! Wonderful for snuggling on the couch or in bed. I can see taking it to the beach for when the sun starts to set or using on a plane as a blanket. Useful as well as stunningly beautiful. Love the yarn. I used the exact same yarn in showtime with the harvest maize tassels as you did. Didn't want to be a copycat but I loved the look you created. I might make a few more in other colors of this yarn for Christmas gifts. Very happy. Thank you.

Agreed. I used to only use super saver cuz that’s what I could get... I assumed it was my fault when the yarn split... till I started working with other yarns. Super saver splits horribly. Premier yarns is my favorite brand ❤️❤️❤️ love their anti pilling yarn

I was in the "middle" of crocheting a Ruana, but starting skein 4 of 16 oz I was getting discouraged I would EVER see the finished product. I saw your video and was SMITTEN! It is working up SO FAST, and even though you don't state how many "rolls" you used I figure I would get the size wrap I want even if I use 2 of my 16 ozers. (Never had so much fun ripping out a project before - I was looking forward to starting yours so much!)

Haha, Oh my gosh I love this so much! So so happy this project got you excited. I used 3 skeins of the Red Heart Roll With It Melange. But what I love about this shawl is that you can just keep adding skeins until it is the size YOU want it to be. That is why I didn't say how many skeins. So you could make it what you want it to be. So excited for you to make this shawl! Let me know if you have any questions. 😊🧡🧶

I read a comment somewhere that said...if you are going in the back loops of a project to not only use the back loop, but also use the back bar with the back loop to reinforce the stitch. I think I might try it with this pattern. I’ll let you know how it works out after. Thanks so much for sharing, Tiffany! Have a blessed day! 💕🧶

Hi Deborah55! Interesting. Yes, let me know what you think. What you are mentioning sounds more like a Back Post Double Crochet then just a back loop double crochet but the look will definitely be more defined. 😊🧡🧶
