UPDATE: Hi everyone! This video has received a resurgence of interest so I wanted to let you know that I AM making this blanket and will show you the finished project in a few weeks. Here are some answers to your questions in the meantime. The yarn is "Feels Like Butta" and is a sport weight (Med 4) requiring a 4mm hook. I used a 3.75 mm which made each square 4x4 inches. I am making a 3' x 4' FT throw blanket (not including the border) and I will need 108 squares to do this ( width= 9 squares, height =12 squares). Each square takes about 23 yards of yarn. The skeins I have are 218 yards each so I will need 12 Skeins to make this size blanket. Hope

May I ask is that 12 skeins all up & as there’s 5 colours how many of each colour did you need
@PlayHookywithMe3 жыл бұрын
@@victorialamarque-blair6289 12 skeins total varying the colors . When I bought the yarn at Michaels, the skeins were huge. Each was the equivalent of 3 skeins so I have essentially 15 skeins but definitely don’t need that much. So to answer your question, I would get two of each color (10) then choose a 6th color for the remaining 2 or maybe repeat 1 or 2 colors to reach 12.

I haven't made a granny square in 50+ years but this beautiful pattern has made me rethink them. In my teens I made a blanket for my mom using the standard granny square but ran out of yarn. With no money for more yarn it became what my family jokingly called the "Half-gan". Although my mom has been gone for many years, it still lives on and has warmed laps of our entire extended family over the years. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I just may have to try them again! ♥️

Hi Roz..Best Granny Tutorial ever!! I learned basic crochet 2 yrs ago- after knitting throughout my life- Im now 65 & i was intimidated to try any Granny Sq pattern- I couldnt get the"ring" idea..Today I sat down, determined to CAL with you this gorgeous sunburst..and Voila- 2hrs later- I completed my first Granny- learned the "ring" your way- just a center really- and I had REAL FUN..I love your method of teaching..I like how you stacked the basic cirles- to crochet the edges later..I like to complete projects- and I had just finished a crocheted tassel afghan 48X60 in..and I wanted to make something that can be pastels- like yours- or boho colors- or even made in OMBRE colors- cuz I have multiple stashes in different clors.. and I just had so much fun- this was a starting point- and Im going to make more squares & use your BLOCK STITCH BORDER because I love how it looks..Im so excited,,Thanks for making this so easy..I cant wait to see what I make!! I love this tutorial and I LOOOOVE the colors you chose! I love doing starburst granny squares, but I keep having one issue: when I do my round of puff stitches, I tend to get a gap underneath it, between the puff stitch and double crochet. Your rows are all so tight and neat, and fit against each other so nicely! I'm wondering if I'm pulling too hard on the puff stitch, or if my double crochets aren't tight enough...do you have any words of wisdom you could pass on to a newbie crocheter?
@PlayHookywithMe3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much - gosh I have to admit I’m not really sure what could be causing that. It could be an issue with tension - maybe a smaller hook size to see if that tightens it up for you ? I use a 3.75 mm eventhough my yarn calls for a 4mm. Maybe someone will read this and have some insights. Keep me posted if you find a resolution ❤️

@@PlayHookywithMe if I use two different types of yarn on a blanket will it be ok? It’s pretty much the same size just I got one from Walmart and one from dollar tree wondering if it will wash funny
@PlayHookywithMe3 жыл бұрын
@@sammyr.1284 I think you'll be okay if they are the same yarn weight. You'll notice a difference if one is a 4 and the other is a 5 for, for example, so I would avoid that . I have had to do the same thing with projects before and as long as I keep that the same, it usually looks fine. I would double check the washing instructions on both yarns and again make sure they are made the same way ( both made with synthetic yarns, both wool etc) If they are the same then everything should be perfect fine. xo

Beautiful pattern, but I have a question. You said around 20 minutes in that I should connect the trebles going across to the other square, but what do I do when I’m joining my first two squares?? I don’t have another one on the left side like yours yet to be able to go across. Thanks
@PlayHookywithMe4 жыл бұрын
Thank you , Megan. Okay, when you are first starting , you complete the first square completely (not joining to anything). Grab your next “disc” and complete 3 sides. On the third side , only complete the first 3 trebles in the corner and then attach with your slip stitch to the corner of the first completed square . Then create the next 3 trebles on the new disc you’re working on to continue the joining of the 2 squares together. Finish the 4th side with the join as you go technique. You will keep doing this to join the first row of your blanket., If this doesn’t make sense , please write me over on Instagram in direct messages and I’ll send some photos to help . 💕

Hello dear , it’s me again ; I’m trying to attach these squares as I go .. I crochet 4 rounds .. then I attached the 5 th round as I go .. I like the way it looks; even though a little difficult to handle.. I hope I’m on the right track .. not that easy.. I’ll keep on trying this method, thanks kindly.
@PlayHookywithMe3 жыл бұрын
Oh good idea to add a 5th round to join as you go. Yes, it’s a bit tricky but at some point it will “click” and you’ll get your rhythm. I hope you’ve seen my join the first 4 video - I think I added a couple more tips in that one that hopefully you will find useful 💕 kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2eunKiCpqyaaMU

Love your channel! I can't seem to find the part where the ends are weaved in? If I do the alternative to the slip stitch my work becomes loose and shows holes. How do I secure my work when using the alternative to the slip stitch when finishing each round? Not sure what to do with the tails? So pleased that I found your relaxing channel!😊
@PlayHookywithMe Жыл бұрын
Here you go 💕: A Slip Stitch Alternative| The Invisible Join| Questions Answered kzbin.info/www/bejne/rnvFiZhvrLOtjck Basically you want to weave your tail in a couple of different directions (I like 3) to keep your tail secure. If you have any doubts , add a like a tie/knot before your last weave in - like you would do with a needle and thread. That’s really not necessary, though .

Love this so much thank you. I would love to border it but haven't a clue how as shell border doesn't calculate. Anyone can help with this to get a neat edge please? X
@PlayHookywithMe Жыл бұрын
If you really want to do a shell border , you can make it work … just fudge it a little by skipping a stitch here or there to get the calculations right as you go. I’ve found the best place to do that is before a corner or after. As long as the corners look right, everything else will. If you don’t like that idea, here is the border I added to mine: Easy Block Stitch Border (+ Picot Stitch) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGnUqYFrr7p8sM0
