It is a rare thing that I comment on videos. However, after watching quite a few videos on slip stitching, I have to say, this one saved my project. I began a beanie for my husband that is 75% slip stitching, I was about to quit and was pulling my hair out because of having to pull every stitch onto my hook. Your tip on pausing before pulling on through saved my project, which my husband was looking forward to-thanks so much!

A sweater that uses this stitch for collar and cuffs: archive.org/details/columbiabookofya02schu?q=yarn+Columbia Translate "Size 6" hook to "G/6/4.00mm" and "Size 15 Years" to"Medium". This video helps. Thanks Tamara!

This is awesome. I'm curious, if I started with enough chains to be the full height of the hat and worked the whole thing in this slip stitch, wouldn't it look like a knit hat and then i could fold up the rim for a cuff at the bottom?

I just wish you had included how to join this together, because that's the part that I can't get to lay correctly. I can't get it to join within the pattern, it creates a double rib that doesn't match the rest

I really like this stitch and was wondering if you could use it to make a scarf and not just cuffs?
@tamarairene
@tamarairene 7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! You could make anything - it would make great stretchy baskets and cozies too! :D Cuffs and brims are just the most obvious applications!

I got the knack of it but for some reason my edges do not look smooth like yours. I have tried slip stitching into the back loop of the first and last stitch as well as both loops of the first and last stitch but it doesn’t look nice and even like yours. Any suggestions?
@mooglyblog

I would try putting stitch markers in the first st of each row, to make sure you're not ending up in the wrong spot on the next row. Additionally, you may want to try changing your tension a little bit, or even your hook size. I hope that helps!

Now that I know how to do this stitch, how do we join it for a brim. I have tried to do it and I get a huge seam. There must be a way to do it so it appears more seamless

I couldn't make out what you are saying about pulling from inside, yarn burr????

This is pretty late, but she's saying "yarn barf". The tangles you get when pulling from the center of the yarn skein sometimes.

Very cool! Love the stretchiness! When you were talking about pulling the yarn from the outside with a big skein instead of the inside, I didn't quite understand what you meant. Could you possibly explain that? Thank you for the wonderful tutorial!
@lansingstlady
@lansingstlady 7 жыл бұрын
she actually does it in the video starting at 1:27 (pull from outside) the inside is where the end of the yarn is; inside the skein or in the middle of the skein. Hope that helps.

Thanks for marking the time on that. I went back and listened to it several times. I think she is saying yarn barf. I googled it and now I realize that must be what she is saying since I get that sometimes when pulling from the center. 😄 I've never heard that phrase before.
@tamarairene
@tamarairene 7 жыл бұрын
Yes! Yarn barf - just a silly name for when you get that mess from the center when trying to find the end. :P Easiest way to avoid it is to work from the outside!

do you have any tutorials on how to attach this or work it right into a sweater hem or hat or sleeve cuff? thanks!
@mooglyblog

I don't currently, I'm afraid. To crochet into it, you just crochet right into the edge of the cuff as you would for an edging on anything else. To add it after the fact, you'd probably want to do something similar to this: www.mooglyblog.com/crochet-ribbing-brims-and-cuffs/

Yes! You can use any yarn weight you like. It's just easier to demo with thicker stuff. :)
