The yarn over slip stitch is a beautiful knit like crochet stitch that is so very easy to do. I will be using this stitch for some of my upcoming patterns and wanted to provide a clear guide for how to do this stitch.
Check out all my free patterns on my blog at www.windingroadcrochet.com/ .

What a wonderful stitch! My expectation was that it would create a very stiff fabric, but it is actually super stretchy like knitting! Thank you for the good explanation and video, I think this may be my new favourite crochet stitch😃

I find this to be my favorite stitch as well. I made a scarf and hat with it. I’m currently making a pillowcase out of it as well. I want to try different stitches but this one is so beautiful for as easy as it is!

Just learned this stitch a few days ago and mine didn't have as much stretch as yours. May have to either loosen my tension or go up a hook size. Wonderful ribbing for a hat - tfs!!

Yes I love this stitch. I made this stitch with Lionbrand Heartland and it did not have as much stretch. I think the Sheep Chic may be giving it that extra stretch.
@barbsanderson231

I found it to be a very firm stitch, which would be great for ribbing on an open cardigan - will give a softer/stretchier yarn a go and see what happens :)

I want to love this stitch because it looks gorgeous but every single time I try to pull the first loop through the second and third loops to finish the stitch I either end up dropping a loop or splitting my yarn 😭
@WindingRoadCrochet

Oh know. Have you tried using a different yarn or a different size hook. I am using a H hook (5mm) with worsted weight, #4, yarn.

I was having this same issue and found an easy way to prevent dropping/splitting. When you pull the first loop through the second third, instead of having the hook face you, first rotate the hook to face away from you and then pull through. I found this rotation holds the first loop a little tighter on the hook and I’m having waaaaay les issues with splitting the yarn when pulling through.

@WindingRoadCrochet

You might try this with a larger hook. It should create larger loops and make pulling through easier.

LOVE IT 😍 Any recommendations on increasing and decreasing on the first and last stitches to crochet this diagonally? I’d really like to make a Spa Cloth from corner to corner!
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, YO, insert hook in next stitch and pull up a loop, insert hook into the next stitch, pull up a loop, pull first loop through all loops on the hook to decrease. Increase just work two stitches into the same stitch. I will be doing a video on this in a few weeks. I have a blanket that requires increasing and decreasing with this stitch.

Awesome tutorial!! Could you explain the difference between yarn over slip stitch and a normal slip stitch?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 2 ай бұрын
With a slip stitch you will go straight into the stitch and pull up a loop. With a yarn over slip stitch, you will yarn over the hook first then go into the next stitch and pull up a loop.

My pattern says "sc3, slst". Does that mean I need to make sc3 and then insert my hook into the next knot and then yarn over and pull through. Or should I sc3 and then directly yarn over and pull through?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 4 жыл бұрын
The video is for a stitch tutorial. Can you tell me what pattern you are having trouble with so I can help. SC3 often means Single Crochet into the next 3 stitches, then you would either Slip stitch to the next stitch, or maybe slst to the first stitch of the row. I can't be sure without looking at the pattern. In my written patterns I do not abbreviate them as much so they are easier to understand.

@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 20 күн бұрын
You can loosen your tension if that is doable, or you can try using a larger hook. I have also seen people hold their hook at an angle to adjust tension.

I can't help notice that you specified that this is a "right-handed" tutorial. As a leftie, I'm wondering if there is an alternative means of accomplishing this stitch or can I just carry on with it the way you did it? I'm asking because when I do this the way you described it it doesn't turn out looking the same as yours by any stretch of the imagination. I would really love to learn how to accomplish this as a left-handed crocheter.
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 4 жыл бұрын
You would work it the same way left handed. For a while I was making 2 videos, one right handed and one left handed (just a flipped video).
@lefthandedhooker1967
@lefthandedhooker1967 4 жыл бұрын
@@WindingRoadCrochet I noticed that the video was flipped, but honestly? That doesn't work. I ended up having to reverse the direction of my yarn over to make it work correctly. I figured it out on my own.

I tried doing the yarn over thing but it still doesn’t work and I tried over than 100 times please HELP
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 3 жыл бұрын
Ok. Here is a written version of the stitch. Maybe it will help. Please note that to get the nice ribbed knit look, we are working into the back loops only. 1. Yarn over. 2. Insert the hook into the back loop only on the next stitch. 3. Yarn over and pull that loop back through the stitch. (You will have 3 loops on your hook). 4. Pull the first loop through the 2nd and 3rd loop on the hook. 5. Stitch complete. It is basically like a half double crochet in the back loop only but you don't do the last yarn over that you would do in a half double crochet. You use the loop that you pulled up from the next stitch to complete the stitch.

Crochet the stitch to be the width of the brim. Sew the edges together then crochet along the side of the rows to start the hat.
