I just had to comment to say you are such a wonderful teacher!! You have singlehandedly taught me how to crochet. I had completed 144 granny squares in an attempt to make a blanket but I was having so much trouble figuring out the proper way to join them. I remembered this channel (from which I had originally learned to crochet) and sure enough it was the one video that taught how to do it from start to finish in such a clear and easy to follow way. I have suggested your videos to many of my friends who have showed an interest in learning to crochet. You are the best!! Thanks so much

Thank you! I love the look of granny square crochet but have avoided making afghans, scarves or shawls with them because I hated the joining process by sewing them together ( the only method I had ever seen). This encourages me to try a traditional granny square piece after many years. I have done several afghans that are just one giant granny square but it’s not the same.

@bellacococrochet7 ай бұрын
Thank you, I'm glad you like it 😊 It comes down to personal preference whether you block them or not; if you turn your granny square after each round it should work up nice and straight, so no need to block.

I've made some Grannies with 4 trebles per set, 3 chains in the corners but I make 2 chain between each set of 4 trebles instead of your 1 chain. So your joining will work brilliantly except where you join the squares with the slip stitch - which counts as your 1 chain. So do I have to put an extra chain in here to make it the same as my 2 chains? I'm a novice crocheter and recently finding you has been wonderful. So explain so clearly. Thank you.

Thankyou for such a good tutorial at a nice pace too. I’m making a cardigan and I have followed your method but I am now stuck as I have come to the triangle I used for the neckline. I have joined it on 2 sides successfully but not sure what to do with the diagonal side of the triangle as there are no spaces as such to do the double crochets in if you know what I mean. Do you have a tutorial for this?

This is awesome, and will be very handy with my next temperature blanket, thanks! If we didn’t want the holes in it, do you think it’d work if before you pulled your last loop through in your treble crochets when joining between the two sides, you put your hook in the top of the other side and pull a loop through that one and pull through all three? Or do you think it’d be too bulky? Maybe back loop only to stretch it out a bit?
@bellacococrochet Жыл бұрын
You’re welcome, I’m glad you like it! 😊 For the method you describe, I would work your treble crochet as normal, remove your hook, pop your hook through the corresponding stitch on the square you’re attaching to, and then pull the loop through and begin working your next stitch. Hope that makes sense!

if i didnt add a stitch between my 3 trebles do i when joining them together?
@abigailpalmer597111 ай бұрын
Can you use this technique for doing say a Christmas stocking? Your granny squares are the exact same style that I'm going to need to do, and as I'm looking at my great grandmother's crochet job on the stocking she did, it appears that she may have done the attaching of each granny square in this same style
@bellacococrochet11 ай бұрын
You can use this method for different shapes but I would recommend drawing out a diagram of your squares first, to work out the order of the join and see whether it will be possible 😊 You may find that you need to use the join as you go technique (but not a continuous join).

Question.... what if I decide I want a double border around the outer edge? Would I do a chain, slip stitch, chain into the spot where the corners meet still or would I do a treble crochet in one of the corner meets loops. I hope this makes sense
@bellacococrochet10 ай бұрын
If you want to work a border once you’ve joined all of your squares, I would work a stitch into each adjoining corner space 😊

I want to make a sweater using this method. How would you suggest doing the sleeves?
@bellacococrochet Жыл бұрын
It would probably be simplest to work the sleeves separately and seam them to the sweater; you could join the squares into a rectangle to make the sleeves but it will depend on whether you want to work any shaping etc 😊
@jo-denevyfer3398 ай бұрын
Let’s say, I’ve joined in all 6 squares but I have another 3 or however more squares I’ve made for a blanket. How would I continue adding in more squares ?
@bellacococrochet8 ай бұрын
You'd need to know what you want the construction of the blanket to be. For example, how many squares wide you want it and how many squares tall. You would start by joining all the squares for one row and then continue to build from there. For example, you want your blanket to be 5 squares wide and 7 squares tall. Start by joining 5 squares to make your first row, then continue to add squares row by row. Hope that helps x

I've made your sunburst granny that has double trebles in the corner do I have to join differently using this method or can I swap to trebles in the corner now?
@bellacococrochet9 ай бұрын
The double trebles are just to make the initial square shape; you can just swap to using trebles once you come to joining after this round 😊
@jyttescheepens383811 ай бұрын
I’m working on a granny square gardigan and using this join as you go stitch to get all the granny squares together, but sadly i don’t understand how to join the whole gardigan all in one go, so i’m now joining all the panels ( front panel, back panel and sleeves) separately first to then sew them together.. i don’t know yet whether this is the right way or how to do this so if you have any tips or advices it would be so much appreciated!
@bellacococrochet10 ай бұрын
That sounds like you’re doing it the right way to me 😊 It can be tricky to join all of the squares for a project in one continuous join when it’s a more complicated shape (eg. not a blanket) but drawing out a diagram on some paper can help you plan out the order of the joining, and to see whether it’s possible.

@bellacococrochet10 ай бұрын
Row three is just a repeat of row two; it can be confusing at first and definitely take some getting used to 😊 I find it helps to draw out a diagram of your squares with a line for the joining so it’s really clear.

Since this is join-as-you-go where you're essentially adding in another round to the squares, does that mean you don't have to go through the blocking process before joining them?
@bellacococrochet Жыл бұрын
It’s completely optional whether you want to block your squares or not; especially if you turn your squares over after each round as this will ensure they work up nice and straight anyway 😊
