I've made quite a few with this join as you go and it's held up over the years. I have one from the early 80's and it's still perfect through countless launderings.

I’ve been crocheting for 50+ years and this is my opinion based on my experience. 😅The strength of the join is going to depend on the yarn you are using. If it’s acrylic it’s likely to have little give but if you are using a wool or cotton, you can count on more give. I don’t hate this join at all for my acrylic yarn granny squares. I don’t like joining granny squares and this makes it easy. Very nice tutorial. Love your channel.

I have a crochet reference playlist here and this tutorial is DEFINITELY going into it! Excellent! One of my closest friends died unexpectedly a couple years ago. Her hubby is slowly going through her knitting, crocheting and yarn stash. He gave me 31 gorgeous granny squares (all different) she had crocheted. I was thrilled, but also dreading it because of the thought of sewing them together using a blind ladder or mattress stitch. Now I can crochet them together and I couldn’t be happier. Thanks.

I used to avoid making blankets with small granny squares until I discovered this method. It really is so easy. I also had to fiddle around with my corners till I worked out the look I liked best and I also prefer to join diagonally. Great video.

I'm psyched to find your channel. I've been crocheting for 6 months so I still have tons to learn. My biggest problem is taking on complex patterns. I need to crawl before I walk. Too ambitious. I like your easygoing teaching style too. It does make sense - it's not tedious and boring like finishing can be. It still just feels like creating.

At first I just saved this and was gonna watch it later… which probably meant I wasn’t gonna watch it because honestly I have a lot of join as you go’s saved that always end up looking confusing 😅 I kinda got into pattern reading lately so it’s been a bit since I’ve watched one of your videos, but then it clicked in that you and one other KZbinr were a life saver when I was teaching myself how to crochet so I watched it right away. So glad I did because… although it did look confusing… it also reminded me of why you were so helpful to me… the WAY you explain stuff doesn’t miss a beat. It is like you are having a conversation with us. You put your thoughts all the way through the teaching process. I just love hearing the good, the bad and the ugly of crocheting 😂💪 Your style will always make you a prized go to for me no matter how long I crochet! Keep us learning!!! This one I will try and probably try again and again til I get it right… but I’ll be having fun listening to you explain it 😁

This is really pretty! I love the look of it! I feel like it uses a lot more yarn though than a mattress stitch or another method of joining but it's so pretty it's probably worth the additional expense.

Since the join is also the last round of the square, it might not use as much extra yarn as you think!

I typically join my granny squares with SC in each stick in the back loops only. I like that method because it’s very secure and I creates an interesting border around each square. But I can see where this method would be good for some projects. Like for a vest or cardigan this might look better than my method. I’ve never made either before.

However you choose to bring your squares together, as long as the yarn has been attached well at the start and the finish, it’s going to be fine and not work loose. Strong knots girls, is all you need at the start and the finish.

Hello! Thank you so much for this video. However, I’ve been struggling with this technique. I’ve tried it multiple times and it keeps ending up crooked/slanted. Do you know why that might be? Is it something that would be fixed with blocking? It seems too significant to be fixed with blocking…
@Kitty-JuneOhSixJanTwentyFour3 ай бұрын
Ooo,you have a very tight tension. And my question is, is a single slip stitch join here and there being sturdy enough to hold the weight of for example a huge blanket, when for example you hold the blanket up and bottom motifs pull down etc.

this is a different way of doing a "Continuous JAYG" to what I have been doing. There are others on KZbin doing JAYG & CONTINUOS JAYG. Discovered JAYG about ten years ago. Before that only came across in a pattern (& It wasn't called JAYG in those patterns ), but they never said that you could do it on any crochet motif, which you can.

I love this join! Looks so doable lol. My question with your double crochet.. if you don't use a chain in between clusters, how is it laying flat and not buckling?
@bhookedcrochet8 ай бұрын
That's an interesting question! My best guess would be that the number of double crochets is the same so you're not technically losing a stitch by omitting the chain.

Interesting. I’m liking the idea but would a single crochet be more secure than a slip stitch? Trying to think how that would work. Might give that a try. Will be saving this video! Thank you.
