How to Cross-Stitch Into Crochet Fabric Tutorial

In preparation for doing some cross-stitch on crochet crafts, I am posting some quick how-to videos to get us all on the same page. We'll be cross-stitching on hats, scarves, wall-hangs (I've got a Halloween one for us to do!), and a Stitch-Along blanket. It'll be fun!
This is a quick tutorial on how to cross-stitch into crochet fabric using yarn and a yarn needle.

I have a double crochet blanket I am making for my boyfriend. Is it possible to cross stitch on it? I was going to add a phrase on the front of the blanket. I'm noticing every cross stitch on crochet work videos only show single crochet work. Just making sure if it's possible for double crochet.

I am an experienced cross stitcher and the one problem I see here is your X's are not going in the same direction. The underside or bottom thread should always go left to right and the top thread should go right to left.

When I cross stitch over knit (needles) it kind of spreads the knit cos the stitches are thicker. Does it do the same on crocheted knit? I have a pattern of many stitches one next to the other to make and I was wondering if it would do the same thing?? :-/ Also, do you use the same thickness of yarn for the crocheted blanket as for the cross stitch? Thx!!

How does the other side of your hat (or project) look when you pull your stitches through like that?

if it goes as normal cross stitching does the other side will have "bar's" not X's
