Took a few videos but found this one that clearly explains how to make a pentagon simple and fast. Keep up the good work!

36 from the flat end, the angle left in the wood is 54 For people not using the saw

So the angle on each end is 36 degrees?

Good afternoon I would like to ask you a question if you don't mind i want to build a 2v geodesic wooden frame dome the problem is alot of the dome calculator on line give you the miter angles on the ends of the struts but you have to have a bevel angle the length of each strut i can not figure that out im wonder if you can help me i would appreciate your help thanks for sharing your experience

Faster way: Set miter to 36 degrees. Cut the tip off your board. Flip the board and run it to the stop and cut. Flip the board and run it to the stop and cut. Flip the board and run it to the stop and cut. Flip the board and run it to the stop and cut. Flip the board and run it to the stop and cut. You not have 5 pieces with 6 cuts and no resetting of the miter and only 1 small triangle of waste rather than 15 cuts, resetting the angel of the saw, and 10 triangles of waste.

Gotta account for saw blade width in that case
@BetterByThePound17 ай бұрын
@@lutze5086 No, no you don't. You're cutting fresh off the end each time. Final cut length is determined by stop block setting. There's no need to account for kerf anywhere in the process outlined above, and far more efficient with far less waste than shown in the video.

@@BetterByThePound1 you're right, I'm not sure what I was thinking

@@lutze5086 No worries, the original video was such a butchering of the wood with horrendous technique, it was disorienting to say the least.

Omg!!! I've been looking for something just like this. The only difference is I'm trying to do this on a bigger scale for a shed design. You have any tips or suggestions how I can do this with 4x8 plywood?
@nattybohman3 жыл бұрын
Id assume same angles
@mark1be5 жыл бұрын
why didn't you cut both miters on the same side of the saw

Never ever ever put your fingers that close to a blade! use a push stick

Would have set it to 36 deg with stop block first too. Less cuts

How is it a 36
@craig2065 жыл бұрын
360 degrees divided by 10 cuts equal 36

Its actually a 54° but a 36° is the reverse of a 54° and alot of saw don't go up to 54°
@gatotsuyitno21563 жыл бұрын
pentagon = 5 angles ( n ) = ( n - 2 ) x 180° ÷ n = ( 5 - 2 ) x 180° ÷ n = 3 x 180° ÷ 5 = 108° miter saw : 180° - 108° = 72° 72° ÷ 2 = 36°

Why 36 and not 30
@foothillsnztaka72105 жыл бұрын
if you look at pentagon you will notice you can divide the inside of pentagon into 3 triangles. the total of all angles in any Euclidean triangle is always 180 so 3x180=540,. now pentagon has 5 equal points so 540/5=108 now 108 is made up of 2 sides so 108/2=54. So when you want to cut a piece at 54 degree you've got to set the saw at 90-54 which is 36 degree.
@SawdustandWood5 жыл бұрын
Great explanation!
@waltp95093 жыл бұрын
No it's not. All the angles of all the shapes (triangle, pentagon, octagon, etc) total 180 degrees. A pentagon (5 angles) is 180/5=36 degrees. Octagon (8) 180/8=22.5, etc. Simple Adding all the triangles then dividing by the angle, then dividing by the sides, then subtracting from 90 is just ludicrously complex.

@@foothillsnztaka7210 I've been trying to figure this out! Thanks for explaining!
@rickmcconnell16862 жыл бұрын
@@Donnymega They're all still wrong. There's 360 degrees in a pentagon. 5 corners at 72 degrees, but there are 2 cuts on each piece. 72 degrees divided 2 cuts = 36 degrees on each end.
