Thanks a lot for the video. Now i will use your video how to install a new bike fork video in my new Giant MTB frame. This is a very good technical info on how to install a new bike fork even for tapered and straight steering tube. I will recommend to use pipe cutter for cutting the steering tube for easy and straight cutting. Thanks a lot and God bless.
@simons199211 жыл бұрын
I just want to add that you shouldn't overtighten the top cap as the fork will press against the headset a tad too much and can cause increased wear and tear and not feel as smooth as it could

Love this video you put the camera right up to the forks so i can see what your talking about and what parts go where unlike other channels. I just took my forks off because im getting some forks that are a bit rusty but theyre amazing forks they are like the rock shox boxxer forks same design but different company going to install them to see if they are the right size and if they are gonna remove the rust re grease them and make them like new basically restoring them lol.

It's a pretty good video in comparison to others. it gives you a good basis to go on, use google if you need to know any more if you're not able to figure it out yourself. 1) not many bikes use a split design these days 2) that's your personal preference, a lot of people like a plush stem and top cap, nothing above it, looks a lot better and you know it. 3) Does not make it a bad video 4) You're right on that one and 5) For the purpose of the tutorial, it doesn't matter.

Is there an adapter to fit V brakes ? I found a nice fork for a 26 inch to replace a rusted one on a 24. The mounting boss is about an inch off so now the pad rubs the sidewall instead of the rim. Put 26 inch wheels on? Might not fit in rear.
@richardpurkis324911 жыл бұрын
5.5 inch? In length yes, but the headtube is measured by its diameter. Usually 1 1/8 inches, 1 1/4 inches or 1.5 inches. If you follow this step by step, take your time, there should be no problem, and to be honest you don't need to measure anything in this process, just marking out ready to cut. What exactly are you asking?

I would never use a screwdriver to install a star nut. You run the risk of knocking the threads out of it. I use a socket. Don't worry so much about trying to put it in straight. The star nut will flex and go in if it is a little crooked. I just installed new forks on my bike and did it this way and it worked just fine. I also removed the old star nut from my old forks by knocking the star nut through the bottom and there is no damage to the star nut.
@Patrick94GSR9 жыл бұрын
Thomas Winfree I put the top cap bolt through my star nut as a guide, then found a deep socket that would fit over the bolt head, and used the actual socket to push the star nut in, hitting with a rubber mallet.

@LegionnaireENR3410 жыл бұрын
If headset bearings are sealed (they usually are), then you can just spray the thing with WD40 to displace water. The grease here is not all that important, read the author's answer below
@Clubcarxrt155010 жыл бұрын
LegionnaireENR34 then you never answered my question
@ciansutcliffe16659 жыл бұрын
Mtb Life absolutely dont just spray with wd40. If your talking about lubrication or grease for the headset (seen as green in this video) it is either shimano general use grease or by far the best I've seen (and ive seen alot) is 'MOTOREX 9000" bright green grease. It is designed by a company who provides grease to cable cars running in the coldest/wettest/harshest environments. It will stop water getting in at the bearings and does not wear thin or degrade. If this doesn't answer your question please clarify what your asking.

Question: why cut 3mm below the line? Wouldn't it result in a situation where the part of the stem that has the upper bolt is not clamping down properly with the steerer tube? I cut my forks 1mm above the line, then put a 2mm spacer below the top cap. This way my top cap pushes against the spacer, the spacer pushes against the stem, and both upper and lower bolts are making the stem fully clamp down the steerer tube. Am i doing it wrong or are there any negative effects on my stem/steerer tube by doing so?
@donovanswift50103 жыл бұрын
Because the blade is 3mm or has a 3mm bite

It went together easily in less than an hour. kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
